One of my friends at the Tweed Heads museum told me today she visited the two bridges over to Dodd’s Island last week. The bridge closest to Chinderah has RSJ longitudinal beams with concrete abutments. The other had solid telegraph pole type longitudinal beams.  Not able to check if there were signs of rails on either bridge.
I checked the LRRSA online bookshop and LR138 is available for purchase it seems in book not PDF format unless I was looking the wrong way. The price was $2 I recall so OK either way although I prefer PDF download but hardcopy is also very welcome.

On page 132 of John Armstrong’s June 76 Bulletin article there is a reference to Byrne's and Brinsmeads tramways which would have crossed the Pacific Highway at Oak Avenue. The plantations they served were on Dodds Island rather than Stotts Island as John states. There were still remnants of track on this line in the mid 1980s but it has gone now.

Yes, I worked at Parramatta at the time of the blaze. The way it affected the group was absolutely devastating.
Unfortunately, preservation groups struggle to protect their collections, with fire being probably the worst threat.
Zig Zag and the bushfires of the last few years is another example.
Unfortunately, unless kids and young adults have a sense of the importance of what they destroy, it will keep happening.

The term Coney Fair was somewhat common as well.  John Knowles’ in the following article reports on one around Dalby in the 1940s 1950s; Miniature Trains on the Shows Circuit in Sunshine Express, December 1984. Trove for 1949 http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/188516800  has a  Coney Fair in Goodwin Park Coolangatta which is in Lanham St, not near the beach site which also had a ride on steam train as per Kevin Sewell’s material previously posted in this group.

Just in addition to Frank's comments, upon arrival at Emerald on the Up or return journey, the train stopped and more firewood was loaded from an NQR on No. 3 road, with the help of several passengers.

Pleasure Island amusement park

Some recall my short article on Pleasure Island amusement park in Light Railways 234 December 2013. This was a small scale version of Disneyland, operated at Carrara on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 1959 till closure in 1962.  It included an 80 passenger capacity tram on a half mile long 2ft (610mm) gauge tramway on tracks purchased from Queensland Railways [QR].

If you have a look in my Photobucket gallery, you will find some comparative pix of Bombala, Cooma (and other station sites on the Bombala line) and Gundagai (and other station sites on the Tumut line), dating from 5-7 yrs ago.
 
Regrettably the standard  of the photos isn’t quite up to yours, but in spite of this, I hope you find the content interesting compared to what you saw recently.
