Re: : Cudgen sugar mill

Seems the tramway from the Tweed River wharf at what is now called Chinderah to the Cudgen Mill did not exactly follow the present road in its 1942 route but the tramway was more to the ocean side. The tramway was shown on the Tweed Heads 1931 map but not on the Norries Head 1942 map so I merged them. Cudgen Mill site is marked by the former mill chimney used as a trig point east of the school. The 1942 road is now present day Crescent St through the Cudgen village area and the replacement 1980s built main road goes through the general mill site.  Both maps courtesy Richmond Tweed Regional Library.

No tramways eg Fraser and Joubert, marked north of the river although the jetties are marked in interesting places. Also reveals the Chinderah Pacific Highway cross river ferry was not near Barneys Point thus not near the present bridge. The northern side is marked by Old Ferry Rd.

Hello Bruce,

Thanks very much for that good news. I was beginning to think the August issue had been permanently lost in the mail system.

I ran a detailed maths project on one of the Calder Park festivals: a completely mismanaged logistics disaster.  Even my vegie maths students could do a better job than the organisers for planning toilet and transport and drinking-water needs.

OT - research assistance in Brisbane

Peter Evans

This is definitely not light railway-related!  I am writing a book on the Sunbury rock festivals in Victoria and I am hoping an LRRSA researcher in Brisbane can assist me.  I need to know any mention of a 'Sounds of Sunbury' concert reputedly held at Lang Park in Brisbane on 29 January 1973.  The promoter was a Jim McKay. If there is  Brisbane researcher regularly reading copies of the Courier-Mail, the details I seek will most likely be in the last week of January or the first week of February 1973.  If you can assist, please contact me directly.  These issues are not available in Trove.

Cheers,

PeterE.

My copy has not arrived in the Friday post, I reckon Beaconsfield is about a 3 to 3-1/2  hour drive from here. I purchased a part from Queensland last Friday, a small padded bag, it was posted of Friday & took 7 days to get here
Look forward as usual for the mag!

Hello all,

OK all, thanks for the responses.

I will now change the question.

Is there anyone in Victoria who has received the August issue? From what I gather none at all have been delivered. I would expect those going outside Victoria to take a little longer.

Ironically, our overseas members may get this issue quicker than Australian members. The overseas issues were posted last Saturday, because they were simpler to handle, and they go first class mail.

Regards,

Frank

That is to be expected by Australia Post these days. They can’t even guarantee overnight Express Post from Kiama to Sydney. The private couriers are no better.
