Not a hint has appeared about what the syllabus item is.
Is there anyone at home, online, who isn't attending but who can post what it is? I am munching dinner, but can't decide whether to head out at 20.17 for a late arrival or skip it tonight. Regards, Roderick

Can a LRRSA member attending the Menangle Field Days on 16-17 October provide the LR H&T editor with a brief report and some photos highlighting any special light railway orientated features this year? I will be otherwise engaged at a Museums Australia workshop at Galong over this weekend.

Re: March 2011 narrow gauge industrial trip to trip to Sichuan (China)
It is very tempting, but also an awkward month for me. I will be part of a major Murray River fleet voyage from the end of March into April, celebrating the centenary of PS Industry at Renmark.
Also on the tempting list for 2011: PTG Cuba (27.2-13.3), with some ng steam. www.ptg.co.uk/tours/cuba.htm And Geoff's Trains Kenya - Zimbabwe - Botswana - South Africa, also with some ng steam (May). www.geoffs-trains.com/africa2011.html Closer to home, Fiji is quite achievable privately. March 2011 narrow gauge industrial trip to trip to Sichuan (China)
I am forwarding to the group details of an exciting trip to China in March
next year that some may be interested in. I have previously participated in tours that John Raby was involved in as a tour organiser and am confident that the tour would be congenial and well run. I would love to go, but from my perspective at this stage, I think I will be trying to focus on my more central interests. However, it is definitely past one minute to midnight as far as such opportunities allow. To read all the details and see what can be expected, go to http://www.users.waitrose.com/~jraby/chinatour1.html John _________________________________ From: John Raby [mailto:linesiding@btinternet.com] Sent: Wednesday, 29 September 2010 10:09 PM To: John Raby Subject: March 2011 trip to Sichuan for the Jiayang (Shibanxi) and Mojiang narrow gauge coal railways A proposal is now on my website http://www.users.waitrose.com/~jraby/chinatour1.html for a China ng tour. This is only 6 months' away so I am keen to get the word out now as quickly and as widely as possible. Please pass this on to anyone who might be interested. The reason for the slightly last-minute decision is the progress on a road that will link Bago to Qianwei which is due to be completed by spring 2011. Spring 2012 might be too late! Please let me know if you are interested. I will then keep you updated on progress with this trip. For those who may want to stay in China for longer than 10 days, I should be able to help suggest additional things to do after the trip either using Zebedee as your guide in Sichuan or with other guides in other parts of China. Depending on my own plans prior to this tour, I may not have much time left on a one month China visa to be able to stay long beyond the end of the tour but that could change. I am currently thinking of celebrating my 60th in Bago for around 2 weeks with my wife before the trip proposed below. Best wishes John Raby

Interesting reading.

Incidently, Victoria Mill have regulatory accreditation for the Homebush Steam Train component only - thats an example where two forms can co-exist, and that operation continues successfully with services a couple of times each year. So its not accredited for the Sugar Cane Operation, just the passenger operation. One may think if regulations was so burdensome, the passenger operation would be hived off? Is the regulatory model so much of a burden that an opportunity to put some otherwise road freight back onto rail willing to be lost? What is the actual cost, has it been costed? I tried searching for Katamatite, and had the same problem you experienced. I then went to the alphabetical search section, clicked on "D" and scrolled down to Dookie, and was able to open the document. Seems to be a slight problem on the site, as you have found. Regards, Scott

Re: Arnold Lockyer OAM
Frank Stamford
That information is unfortunately correct. Arnold died yesterday (Monday).
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Arnold was an extremely enthusiastic supporter of the LRRSA. In the 1980s he, and his wife Dorelle, attended quite a number of tours organised by the LRRSA in Victoria. On one of these trips he floated the idea of setting up an LRRSA Group in Adelaide and holding meetings there. As a result he was invited to the LRRSA National Conference which was held in January 1983. Subsequently he organised the first LRRSA Adelaide meeting in March 1983. Since that time meetings have been held every two months in Adelaide, and until quite recently Arnold has been the Convenor of the SA Group. The work he did for the LRRSA in maintaining the SA Group was greatly appreciated by the LRRSA Council, and he was very highly regarded by all those LRRSA Council members who had met him. Although he was justifiably passionate about railways and tramways in South Australia, his interests spread much wider. He contributed to "Light Railways" on a number of occasions, both articles and letters Frank

A couple of weeks ago on my laptop [windows 7] my Adobe reader updated itself, but after this update every time I went to download a PDF it would only give me the first page and then come up with some thing about not being able to open the file properly.
