Yes certainly in Erica as well, at the sports ground that occupies the site of the old narrow gauge station. Stopover on your way up to Walhalla, and buy your egg & bacon sandwich at the general store...

Thank you John.

That machine is really interesting from a model maker's point of view.
It is probably the easiest bush tractor of all to represent, since a
cheap,
highly detailed Fordson Major tractor is available from Universal
Hobbies
in 1/16 scale, for which standard 45mm track is a close approximation to

two foot gauge.

So I would be really delighted to know more about it.

I'll take my camera with me and get some photos of the Fordson in
the new exhibits shed. I'll try and get enough detail shots on how
it is put together anmd some basic dimesnsions so that you can have
a decent go at it. I'll set up a new album for the pics next week.
John,

Thank you.

I've just received Richard's photostat of Geoff's paper on Day's. I've not had time to read it but it says that Malcolm Moore used Day parts. Just another piece of jigsaw.

Can't stop now, but for those still waiting there are two A4 pages of text, two drawings, one of a 2' gauge four-wheeler and the other of a 3' gauge 6 wheeler, and two "burnt-out" photos, one well known from Warburton and the other somewhere else in Victoria.

The drawings don't tally exactly with the photographs I have, but it's hard to put my finger on why, and no doubt machines varied. The four wheeler has significantly larger wheels than the six wheeler. short

Hello Frank and group members,

Thanks for the offer of TACL drawings, I will remind you later.

After reading emails last night I went to the Picture Australia web site &
did a search on "rail tractors", it gave several interesting results:

1. Rottnest Island - a Kalemazoo trolley & two 0-4-0 rail tractors used for
military installations about 1937, it is worthwhile sidetracking yourself to
general photos of the island. The tractors have Fordson motors mounted
east-west, does anyone know who built them?

2. "rail tractor hauling wool near Yarrawonga" - several fascinating photos
I have not seen before.

3. "rail tractor shunting coal near perth WA" - looks like a 3'6" gauge TACL
with inside frames, this tractor has "Lynas Motors Ltd" written along the
edge of the roof, a quick web search today shows this was a
dealer/distributor who sponsored speedway cars, etc. there is a Company
still existing involved in High-tec cars

Any contributions would be of interest

Mike Brudar

Hello Michael,

"Day's Tractors" was not published in "Light Railways". It was, as
Richard says, a pretty basic publication consisting of about 6 A4 pages.

It was not photo-copied, (but Richard's copy may be a photo copy) but
was produced on an off-set printing machine in my garage about 34
years ago.

It has been my intention to make a copy available as a free pdf
download on the LRRSA website if Geoff Baxter is agreeable. However
unfortunately it will need a bit of work as the text is not well
printed and will need to be retyped. We were doing some experiments
around 1973-74 trying to save printing costs, and used some
troublesome paper plates for the text on the offset machine.

I think something has been published about Nattrass tractors in LR,
but I do not know which issue, but it was probably before No.100.

Frank

The LRRSA publication on Day's tractors was written by Geoff
Baxter and published many years ago at 45 cents. It's a pretty basic
photo-copied publication: 4 pages of text, two of drawings and one of

Re: Days tractors [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi Frank,

I would be interested in some drawings of the TACL.

Hello Mike,

Yes I have a drawing of the TACL, at least a side view. Original maker's
general arrangement drawings exist, though I do not have a copy..

I cannot do anything to find the drawing in the next week, but if you
remind me in about ten days I will search it out.

Regards,

Frank

Regards,

Frank

Perhaps you might also have information about the Natrass Tractors

Li8ght Railways would't go astray from those who have an interest in
Rail Tractors.

Light Railways No.70, October 1980, pages 10 to 14, has an article "Nattrass
Rail Tractors in Victoria" by Ted Stuckey. Four of the five pages consist of
a reproduction of an illustrated advertising brochure issued by the
Melbourne agents for the tractor (L. Bannister & Sons Pty Ltd).

Regards,

Frank

David,

The LRRSA publication on Day's tractors was written by Geoff
Baxter and published many years ago at 45 cents. It's a pretty basic
photo-copied publication: 4 pages of text, two of drawings and one of
photos (incapable of being copied!).

I assume that you, like me, live in the UK...if so, contact me at
the Railway Heritage Trust (you can find the phone number by
'googling') with your details and I'll copy it and post it to you.
I'll be away until 15th February.
