Re: Cane Locos - urban and cane tramways

In 1951 the shortest distance would have been the Brisbane Tramways Mount Gravatt terminus (opened in 1951) to Rocky Point Mill line at Norwell (tramway closed end 1951), approximately 40km. A little bit further when the Rocky Point mill line opened in 1924 as the Brisbane tram route terminus was then Greenslopes, with the line extended down Logan Road to Holland Park in 1926.

More than twice that distance from Chermside to the Paynter’s Creek terminus of Moreton Mill (about 88km).

From Rocky you’d have to go 235km north to Plane Creek mill’s Carmila tramline on dirt roads most of the way – the coast road wasn’t fully completed until around 1980 - or 270km south to the Gin Gin area (Bingera Mill).

The Gold Coast tram (opened 2014) currently runs about 3km from where the Nerang Mill line used to run.
