Re: : Date help please

The Clarkat was converted from a rubber-tyred road vehicle to a 2 ft 6in gauge rail vehicle. The conversion was apparently done at Whistle Stop.

In Peter Medlin's "Steam on the Two foot Six" page 80 it says it was purchased by Whistle Stop from the Department of Supply, and that it had been used for hauling aircraft at airports. In other sources I have seen this type of vehicle referred to as a hauler of luggage trolleys at airports.

Whistlestop must have obtained the Clarkat from some operation: a 762 mm one, or did Whistlestop undertake regauging?
