File: Radio calls (GYI)-RVs.docx

Uploaded By: Bobby Lucroy

Description:
I have placed the radio calls for GYI ( North Texas Regional) for your planning purposes. For some of you never operating four ships/ multiple four ships in a controlled environment this will be a great way to work on your formation radio discipline. GOTTA really be listening as another 4 ship may be checking in at/close to the same time. You don't want to acknowledge your position to the wrong 4 ship and have that Lead thinking everyone in his/her flight is where they are supposed to be. Great Training!!! Can't wait to see who buys the first beverage.....:)

Smoke

Bobby Lucroy

The question has come up about the use of smoke.  If you have smoke and want to bring it you are welcome to do so.  We will NOT have any and it will be at your expense.  If you want to use it for visual acquisition/training that is great.  The one request is that your Flight Lead knows you have smoke and that you can/want to use it at his/her request to help identify your flight to others.  Again, it will be Flight Leads call and brief as part of formation discipline. Nothing worse than to look over your shoulder and see smoke when you are not expecting it. It can give one pause.  Keep the questions coming :)
Luke

Re: Smoke

In Arkansas,  if you don’t exhale and eat the butt, you don’t need permission to smoke 😊

How many of you guys/girls are coming to Fredericksburg Mar 22-24?    We have about 50 planes booked so far with most of them staying at the Hangar Hotel, or the Fredericksburg Inn.   Going to be a heck’uva good time in the Hill Country.   Probably be some smoking going on as well 😉

Will the aircraft be hangared over night or tied down outside? If the latter, do we need to bring tie down anchors for sod?
Thanks,
Brian

NO hangar space. There are tiedowns on the concrete ramp (no sod). Some of the spots are widely spaced, so if you have longer ones, bring those. Don't forgot your cover.

Digger,
Sorry to hear that, but understand. Do let us know if something were to change.
Make sure you delete your name on the Clinic list and cancel your hotel reservation.

Recommendation + Ckride

Gary Stewart

Luke,
I will head down Thursday to increase the chance of a recommendation on Friday am and possible Ck Ride latter. Does that make sense from your perspective?

Re: Recommendation + Ckride

Cowboy,
I would not come down early unless you want to.  We will not be arriving until mid morning Friday and have logistics to set up.  I am thinking if you are there by lunch and we can get a qualified 4 ship up we can work on getting you an endorsement Friday afternoon.  Then if you get the endorsement and deemed ready for a check then we will work on that.  Worst case is we WILL get you an endorsement hop so you are ready for a check ride at the KC Clinic.  We will do our best but we have limited resources as this is our first clinic in many years.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Re: Recommendation + Ckride

Luke, count on our group to help in any way you need.  We like to fly…. A lot!   We’ll be leaving KORK pretty early and I suspect we will be down there by 10:00’ish Friday!  We can lead, follow, or stay the hell out of the way 😊 your call!

Notice

Ron Walker

Hi all--

A quick note with a couple reminder items.

We're less than 3 weeks out from the clinic now, and the pace is beginning to quicken.

Please ensure what you've got your hotel reservations made.

Please let Luke know your experience level via his questionaire that he sent earlier. This will give us a starting point to form a schedule.

For those that are seeking a either a check ride OR an endorsement to take a check ride ----> READ and KNOW the new 8900.1 airshow ops. This WILL be part of your oral check for your card. You can find all of this information on the FFI.AERO web site, but here is a quick link to click -> http://ffi.aero/files/FFI%20AIRSHOW%20OPS%20SUPPLEMENT%20FEB%2010%202018.pdf

Looks like the weather here in Texas has finally flipped to spring, and we should be well into summer by April !

See you in 3 weeks.

Re: Notice

Flagman

All,

In addition to what Ron has said, if you intend to take a checkride you must take and pass the quiz on the FFI website.  Additionally, you must notify either Jarhead or me one week prior to the clinic so that we can assure that you have taken and passed the quiz.  We will not give checkrides to anyone who has not passed the quiz.

Best,

Flagman

I am one of those guys who wants to get re-certified. Pretty sure Dula said I passed, but you might as well double check me.

Thanks!

I just cancelled two rooms at the Hampton.  I have to scrub. My engine won't be back from Barrett in time for the clinic.  Sorry to miss it.

Re: Notice

Bobby Lucroy

To tag on to Shorts and Flagman you MUST also have a recommendation for a check ride. That means someone is putting it on the line that you are a solid wingman/flight lead! Not perfect but does not miss much, and is always working to be better, stay in position and knows the signals/Book. Not to take away from a card if want or need one but it is not a gimme and keeping it requires practice. It requires a lot of practice and being consistent before getting a recommendation. As Falcon would have said “ You strap on the airplane and take it for a flight, the Standards are the standards they are not negotiable “.  I you all know this but I want to make it crystal clear so no one gets discouraged or their ego hurt. The standards main purpose is to keep ALL of us SAFE.

Always working to be in perfect position,
Luke
