Is is possible that I can find the RA/Dec currently and/or a star chart of it? Also, is any website publishing a web page showing path? I have a clear view of Ursa Major early am before sun comes up and would like to use my bino’s to see it.  Now that leaves in central Ohio are mostly down by 4:30 am I may be able to train my Tak E180 on it or set up m portable G8/TV102 to view it.

Hi Doug,

I think that you are finding the wrong comet ATLAS, i.e. C/2020 R4 which is currently close to the Moon in Leo, not C/2019 Y4, which is the one mentioned in the YouTube that Joe posted. ATLAS stands for the survey Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System, so there is more than one comet Atlas, however, you are correct that it is old news. C/2019 Y4 was predicted to reach mag 1 in the spring of 2020, but it broke up as it passed close to the Sun, so failed to perform as predicted. The remnant of it is now in Monoceros at approx mag 20.

As Alister mentioned, the most promising comet currently around is C/2021 A1 Leonard, predicted to become naked eye at around mag 4 next month. Here is a link to a useful resource about it and I'm sure your 1942 binos will show it easily over the coming weeks, so good luck with that.

BTW I took a look at your website journal, which was very enjoyable, so thanks for sharing that.
