Capture from a ZWO ASI6200mm

Dan Meek

Can anyone confirm that IP 6.5 will control a ZWO ASI6200mm camera?  I thought I read that IP will not work with the ZW0 6200.

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

I couldn't get it to work but I was willing to give ASI Studio software a try. After you download the camera driver from the ZWO website, perhaps download their software and give it a whirl.

Good luck and clear skies,
Laurie

Yes and no.  It can process the images but not capture them in Camera control. The results for using such a camera with over aqn 80 QA

Thanks Laurie and Joe.

Am I correct in thinking that IP 6.5 will control / capture images from the ZWO ASI2600mm?

Dan,

This comes up from time to time.  ImagesPlus and ImagesPlus CameraControl is no longer actively supported.  Mike ended the support a couple years ago and turned IP into free software.  Many of the latest DSLR and astrocams are not controllable.  If you camera is not specifically in this list, then IPCC probably will not control it, http://www.mlunsold.com/ILCameraControl.html  There are several different options for camera control.  I personally use Astrophotography Tool (APT) https://astrophotography.app/

That said, IP still works great for image calibration, align, stacking and processing.  IP work with a number of image types including FITS and TIFF.  Some of the newer DSLR raw formats are not supported.  If you have a new DSLR you will probably need to convert the raw files to FITS or TIFF before using them in IP.  If you are just getting started with astrophotography, IP is a great program, and free is awesome too.

Thanks John,

I’ve been a user of IP for probably close to 10 years or maybe more.  I really like how it handles my QSI camera’s over that time and now how the autofocus routine manages the PWI3 interface on my PlaneWave CDK IRF90 rotator/focuser.  Since my QSI’s are getting on in age, I’m in the market for a new camera and I’ve seen some very impressive CMOS images.  But I would really like to stay with IP camera control so I’m trying to zero in on a CMOS that would work with IP camera control.  So far the ZWO ASI2600mm fits the bill.

My first preference was the ASI6200mm but IP won’t control that.

Ideally I would like one package that controls both the image capture and autofocus routine like IP does with my QSI / Planewave IRF90 setup.

Regards,

Dan

Dan, THe AsiStudio will fit your needs, Has good autoFocus through ASCOM and is free. IP is really good and will handle the Fitts from the 6200.

Joe:

I didn't realize ASI Studio had autofocus now. I may have to take another look.

Can anyone confirm that IP 6.5 will control a ZWO ASI6200mm camera?  I thought I read that IP will not work with the ZW0 6200.

Thanks

Dan,
This is an image taken with an EDGE-11 by Laurie from Austin, Tx. and in Austin.  You won't go wrone with the 6200MM, Laurie was the MC model, This shot was cropped.
