It's an issue that has not arisen but based on the fact the HAREC cert does not expire, I am sure the CW qualification does not expire either. There have been several incidences in recent times of licences being issued to people who passed the exam many years ago and never bothered applying for a licence at the time. Great to see an increased interest in CW! 73 Dave EI4BZ

I'm wondering (something those of you with "A" licenses might be able to tell), would a successful result be recorded in any way on my comreg account, the same way that HAREC certification would be recorded?

Hi Dave It’s great to see more learning CW and hats off to those doing both the HAREC and Morse test at the same time. It’s interesting that you say that the HAREC never expires.
This is not the case. You must have passed the Class 2 exam before a Class 1 licence can be applied for irrespective of whether you have passed the Morse test or not.

Keith,
The HAREC certificate is valid indefinitely, at present. It entitles to holder to apply for an amateur station licence in CEPT signatory countries in accordance with T/R 61-01. This, of course, includes Ireland, where the HAREC qualification is a requirement for obtaining both the CEPT Class 1 and CEPT Class 2 licence. To obtain CEPT Class 1 licence one also has to pass the ComReg-accepted Morse telegraphy proficiency test, currently administered by IRTS. Indeed, you cannot obtain a CEPT Class 1 Amateur Station Licence without a valid HAREC certificate. The 5 year requirement, as set by ComReg in 09/45 is not a limit of a validity of a licence or of any qualifications and related certificates. It is an obligation to “confirm with ComReg their details, such as their address and contact details, every 5 years”. On a technicality, ComReg may revoke a licence if you do not confim your data every 5 years, but, strictly speaking, the licence is issued for the lifetime of the holder. It is a bit of a regulatory fudge, but works well as long as you act every 5 years. :) -- 73 Rafal EI6LA |

Thanks Rafal, if you don’t confirm Comreg may revoke your licence. 73 de EI5KO |
