Passing of a Legend

Just wanted to mention that on 2/25, the birding world suffered the passing of a legend, Ruth Shea. She resided in Blackfoot & can Google her name to read about her accomplished life achievements. From a birding standpoint, Ruth was instrumental in the success of the current Rocky Mountain population of Trumpeter Swans.

I recall about 10 yrs ago, noting to eBirds that I had seen ~100 Trumpeters in a field west of Blackfoot. eBird informed me that was an unusually high #. I told Ruth about it & she laughed, stating eBird was behind the times on the success of Trumpeters in our state. A remarkable life & remarkable contribution to Trumpeters.

Brian. Such a warm reflection of this instrumental person, unknown to me, but not any more, thanks to you.

Thanks Kerry. There's a little pond just to west of the hwy before reaching Harriman St Pk, up in Island Park. It always has a resident pair of nesting Trumpeters in the Spring. Ruth would always touch base with me to find out when they were on the nest, as we head up that way alot Spring thru Fall. Going to miss that...

The passing of friends is never easy, especially the ones who’ve left a huge mark on our souls.

Best to you.
