Jon, Great pics! It must be Coopers hawk day because I just had one criss-cross in front of me along my walk. He had immature fine streaks but altogether handsome as always. We have one picking off the backyard quail every other evening or so - almost like clockwork, just before dusk, or "zero dark birdy," as we call it. Liz Medes Emmett

Re: Dry Lakes - A pair of American Golden Plovers ?
I went and looked this afternoon and got good looks of the same 2 plovers in flight. They are Black-bellied based on having light rumps and dark axillary coverts/wingpits. There were also Dunlin, Dowitchers, and Stilt, Least, and Semipalmated Sandpipers still present. The Dunlin count was up to 8 but there was only one Stilt Sandpiper today and drastically fewer gulls and Least Sandpipers. -Carter Strope

Looks like they are Black-bellied Plovers based on the input so far. Ceredig

I see the humor yet many birders are also hunters, I among them. And we may be the most obedient, follow-the-rules hunters. Dean

Based on a discussion on the Idaho Bird sightings and discussion page, these are probably black-bellied plovers. That was based on Bill size, more in distinct supercilium, breast streaking instead of barring, and whiter bellies instead of gray bellies.

This past Friday, Big 71, prime number so I can't split it. I also just realized something. It was one thing to send a copy of the cartoon to individuals, but, I put it on a public forum. There could be complications, permission not given etc.. I've sent Cliff a note to remove the post to keep me as well as ible out of any trouble. CGB. RL

Re: Dry Lakes -- no plovers but 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls this evening
Linda Lamb
Thank you for the directions. I am coming from Reno but spending the night in downtown Nampa. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy Tablet

The Dry Lakes playa is located adjacent to Stagecoach Road. I typically get there by heading out of Nampa on 12th St/Highway 45, turn right onto Bowmont, left on Dry Lakes Road (Bowmont t’s into Dry Lakes) and then Dry Lakes makes a 90 degree turn and becomes Stagecoach. You could also turn right on Missouri or Bennett and the left onto Dry Lakes.
