Twice today my feeders have gone totally silent. The first time I
just caught a glimpse of the "visitor". But he just returned and a
Sharp-shinned Hawk is the culprit. He landed in a cottonwood just
beyond the feeder and while he was waiting for the right moment, I
got to see his field markings. Then he made a quick dive and was on
the tail of a chickadee when they disappeared behind some brush.
Tomorrow, I'll check for the tell-tale signs of scattered feathers to
see if he was successful in his hunt.
