Re: Idaho's Biggest Big Year

Very cool.  Congrats Cheryl and the other big year birders.
I recall Marty’s total being 317.  Either way, that’s a ton of time, effort, and knowledge.

Stoddard Davenport tallied the all-time records based on various sources (makes me realize Jay and I need to get our big year updated in eBird!)

Cheryl really knocked it out of the park this year! As near as I can tell by combining counts reported to ABA.org, IdahoBirds.net, and eBird, here are the top 10 big years for Idaho:

#1 - 318 - Harry Krueger 2004 (IdahoBirds.net)

#2 - 313? - Marty Collar (year unknown, reported by Jay)
#3 - 308 - Cheryl Huizinga 2015 (eBird.org)
#4 - 298 - Jay Carlisle 2009 (self-reported)
#5 - 296 - Stoddard & Ellen Davenport 2015 (eBird.org)
#6 - 295 - Cheryl Huizinga 2014 (eBird.org)
#6 - 295 - Heidi Ware 2009 (reported by Jay)
#8 - 292 - Cheryl Huizinga 2013 (eBird.org)
#9 - 290 - Larry Arnold 2014 (eBird.org)
#10 - 286 - Jay Carlisle 2013 (eBird.org)
#10 - 286 - Jay Carlisle 2014 (eBird.org)
#10 - 286 - Kathleen Cameron 2013 (ABA.org)

It was so fun rooting for you this year Cheryl! I don't think 308 is going to be topped for a loooong time!

This is my tribute to a special birder amongst us.  To my knowledge (limited to eBird archives), Cheryl Huizinga’s 308 species in Idaho last year was a record high single-year tally for the State of Idaho.  So I feel like bragging, e.g., about her perseverance, discipline, energy, experience and prowess in logistics.   =)

Does anyone think they can top 308?  We’ll see, eh?

Way to go Cheryl !!!
