Saturday knit/spin recap

Shelley Reid

This one’s for you, Lucinda! :)

We had a nice little group at the farm: Pat, Joan, Kay, Charlene, and Susan. Charlene and I were spinning, the rest knit. And Carol brought Maisie, either to buy veggies or to see the farm animals. Possibly both. Maisie showed off her knowledge of animal sounds, admired the picture of the “woof” (doggie) in a picture on the wall, and was fascinated by the spinning wheel.

I brought in my Electric Eel Nano spinning wheel, which is teeny tiny and therefore highly portable. The website for those interested in learning more is here. I will just mention that this is one of those tools that has a specific role, in this case to be tiny and portable and reasonably quiet. They are brand new and therefore there is a lot of tweaking that new owners have been doing to iron out the kinks, such as sanding a seam from the injection molds to reduce friction, using various lubricants or teflon tape on the plastic, adjusting the brake band setup and rotating the flyer arms… and the take-up is very, very light. You aren’t gonna spin your next sweater on this baby (2-oz. Bobbins also). But it’s fun.

We also talked about kids, college, careers, travel, cable plying, Rhinebeck workshops and volunteering, the Rhinebeck tote bags, and much, much more. We also had one of those great experiences where someone talked about a challenge in her life and, through talking it out with the group, came up with new insights into the challenge and new ideas in how to approach it. I love that about our group.

Everybody have a great week and a happy Labor Day,

Shelley
