Follow-up: POLL

Shelley Reid

To everyone who has expressed difficulty with the poll:

The direct link to the poll is this: https://groups.io/g/HanoverSpinKnit/message/6277. You must be signed in to groups.io.

If for whatever reason that link doesn’t work for you, then go to https://groups.io/g/HanoverSpinKnit/topics  and either select Messages and click on message 6277, or select Hashtags and click on #Poll. Again, you must be signed in to your groups.io account. That page looks like this:

To vote in the poll, click on the bubble next to the statement you agree with the most.

The reason I put this in poll form was so that none of us has to re-read all of the messages and tally opinions.

I have not attended a meeting in some time but I carry the spirit of the group in my knitting.  The start of the school year is always busy but I know I could never have knitted a hat without the collected insights of the group's members.  Regarding the poll, I am comfortable receiving emails on diverse topics, even political.  Diverse and opposing viewpoints respectfully presented are part of democratic civil society (from my humble point of view) and if I am not interested in the topic, I can glance at it and disregard it.  It may be too many readings of Voltaire's Candide but I have my own strong opinions and am rarely swayed by a post.  If anything, a post may lead me to research and consider a topic but there is never sudden conversion or even consternation.  It is more likely that I will read the post if it interests me and delete if I am not engaged by the topic.  Oh, and I was not certain where to put my vote.  But my vote is 3.

Very nicely said,  Irene.  I could not have said it better.  I look at anything fiber related as 'spiritual' which is  a happy, happy even with challenges because it promotes the creative spirit from within which expands outward to the benefit of all.  However, controversial  is external and  no matter the language - it puts one 'en garde' in a trusted  peaceful environment.  Definitely not happy, happy in my book. Not to mention all the time spent on this issue which diminishes creating avenues.    Jeanne in Ct.
Finishing up fiber programs with children at the mill before another hand surgery Nov. 1st. I think the winter will be quiet and trust the spring will allow me to travel to group.  I LOVE Rhinebeck.  I usually go to Rhinebeck with WEBS in Mass. this time of year  but they filled their buses too quickly so I will look forward to next year!  For those of you attending may you be safe, happy, be filled with great experience, fun and have exceptional fall weather!

In case anyone is wondering, the difference between option 1 and option 2 is that option 1 is limited to truly fiber- and group-related things; option 2 allows for topics such as “great new exhibit at the Met” or “where can I find a good hair stylist” or “my laptop won’t connect to my printer, any advice”.

I’ve also changed the label from “political” to strong opinion/controversial b/c “political” seems to be treated like a dirty word right now (sadly), and I don’t think that some topics are so much truly political as related to issues in the popular discourse that arouse very strong feelings.

Let the voting commence.
