Re: New version (1.2.4.1) just released

Petr,

I'd like to use the Virtual COM port to key my radio (IC-7300) without the need for another external device. Is this something I can do? I have connected the COM port and when I test PTT I get a 1 second tone, but when I try one of the macros it tells me "Mismatched communication with Keyer...."

I suspect this is expected behavior, but would like to confirm that.

Thank you for creating this program.

Hello Tom,

HamRacer doesn't support CW keying via a COM port. It can only toggle PTT for SSB mode.

The message you see happens if you try to send CW to the serial device, but the response is not as expected.

If you can hear a tone after clicking Test PTT, then you have mismatched pins on the COM. The pin that is configured to toggle PTT in Options in HamRacer leads to a pin that is used for CW keying in IC-7300 (probably). Can't tell more, I am not familiar with IC-7300.

FYG, a preferable and very cheap way is to use Spider Keyer. It is now even better than WinKeyer.

Understood, thank you.

The pins are all virtual and soft configurable on the 7300 and I'd deliberately picked the CW key for that COM port. Could make it key SSB easily.

I saw your spider keyer and may consider that.

I'll also research to find out whether the 7300's internal keyer can be controlled remotely. If it can, then it would be like having a spider keyer built into the radio.

Hello Tom,

I briefly took a look into the user manual of IC-7300. If I understand the table of CAT commands (CI-V) you can indeed send characters to be transmitted in CW to the serial line (USB). And the TCVR will send the dots and dashes for you. HamRacer hower doesn't support this (yet?), even that it would be relatively easy to do. The only problem is that I don't have a TCVR I could test it with.

Yet, I think that Spider Keyer is a better choice. First, I can use it with whatever old boot anchor TCVR. Second, I have the full control of it. If I don't like this or that behavior I simply change a few lines in the sketch and burn it into the Arduino Nano.

Petr,

Yes I found the same. It looks like all the new Icom rigs operate using this CI-V bus. The table below defines the character map.

I realize this may not be of interest to you, but I'm encouraged by your "yet?". If you ever decide to try this and need someone who has an Icom TCVR to test I will be happy to help.

Hello Tom,

I think we can give it a try. I will make a small simple utility to test the basic behavior (connecting to TCVR, sending a string of characters to be transmitted, breaking the sending that is underway, toggling PTT, maybe change of CW speed, etc). If it looks feasible I will make a full-flesh implementation to HamRacer. What do you think.

Please route all the following communication to: ok1fig@...

voices

Hi Peter,
My computer has 4 female voices and 4 male voices.
But in your program I can  choose 2 voices?
Can you tell me how i can choose more voices?
Thank you
Alex

Re: voices

Hi Alex, I access the voices thru Windows SAPI 5.1 subsystem. If I ask this object to return a list of voices and it returns only two items I can't do much about it. It means these voices don't support SAPI 5.1, or they do it incorrectly. What are the names of the voices? How did you get them?

New version 1.2.5.0

ok1fig@...

New version 1.2.5.0 is just released. The main change is in the folders where HamRacer.cfg stores configuration files and sample logs.
This version should not arise any access rights conflicts when the user is logged into the Windows as "Users" (not with administrator's rights).
Any feedback is highly appreciated.

DTR/RTS control implemented

ok1fig@...

A new version just released. This version finally implements what many of you called for. It is possible to do CW keying and PTT control through DTR/RTS signals on RS232 interface, mostly a VCP (Virtual Com Port). This is the most simple and cheap way how to interface HamRacer and your TCVR.
Download from here: http://ok1fig.nagano.cz/HamRacer/HamRacer.htm
Any feedback highly appreciated.

German speaking volunteer wanted

ok1fig@...

Hello all,
I have made a new version that can speak two languages. Main language remains English, the other one is optional. It switches automatically in dependency on the callsign input.  I look for a native german speaker to tweet the German language. It concerns setting the right voice (Stefan, Hedda?), inputting german spelling words (Anton, Berta, Caesar, ...?) and overall testing of usability. In return for this the full licence will be granted, of course. Any such person available?

Expansion of Received Exchanges

Marty Bluhm

Hi Guys,
I have bit the bullet in as much as my voice vocal cord has gone on  permanent
vacation. While I can still speak, my voice is  very hoarse and given to extened outages.
What does this have to do with ham radio?
I am trying to expand the supported programs of this fanastic software to include ARRL Sweepstakes,
NAQP and other contests that have extended exchanges.
Petr has done a super job with Hamracer and I do not want him to cut up his program to pacify one user.
That said, I have been playing with the existing version trying to make a work around.
Primarily using the string functions that will work.
I was wondering if anyone in the group has tried anything like this and was it successful.
If so, would you share it?
If I have success, I will post it to the group after running it through Petr.
Thanks all and 73
Marty
