Ric, have you tried retailers who often still have out of stock stuff?  I have been able to find Econami decoders by shopping around or at train shows, even though Soundtraxx no longer offers then.

Personally, I think Soundtraxx is going to price themselves out of the market.

It is a great disappointment that BS is not making any more of the
Vulcan trucks! I have 75 of the hopper cars and 100 sets of the trucks mounted on my kit bashed hoppers and other rolling stock!
Tried to order another 25 pair with no luck! I still need to build fifteen more box cars and flats for the railroad.
No more to come due to the lack of purchase in a timely manner! The old adage of supply and rotation of stock for funds!
At least they were able to give us a quality ready to run hopper and great trucks once.
I also bought 50 of the D&RGW rolling stock to try to get them to produce other products for the EBT.
One can only hope for a new locomotive for the EBT!

Thanks Randy, I didn't see the springs on the prototype photo at first look, but now I think I can see them.  Thanks for the link and number for the HOn3 trucks, I've looked on their website many times and have never seen them.  Will be ordering shortly, thanks to you.

Also, do you know of any photos of similar Kilbourne & Jacobs gondolas that are in the public domain?  Still looking for more details, especially on the latching mechanism for these gunned side gons so I can finish my 3D model.

Myrick notes the cars on the A&NM were 2nd hand flat cars from the C&NW lines and 12 dump cars from Litchfield car & Machine of St Louis...  I strongly suspect there were more cars added later.

These look like the trucks used by Kilbourne & Jacobs on their wood framed hinged sided gondolas...  as does the car...

If I was building a model of one of these in HOn3  I might use the Mcleod 501 trucks as found at http://www.foothillmodelworks.com/MLWestern.html

Thanks Harry.  FYI these are wooden gondola-style cars with top-hinged sides, not the metal dump cars like those on the Eureka Northern in Utah (I think that'should the RR name)

Re: LED headlight

You can study the exploded parts diagram. I replaced one. But don't remember what I did. Call blackstone and the repair guy can walk you thru it. I think I just removed the smokebox front and unscrewed the board. If I recall, you need to solder the lead on. But call them first.

Re: A Trip on the EBT

Nathan; unfortunately there are not enough modelers of the EBT to warrant the run of enough trucks or cars to allow for a desired profit margin in a timely fashion.
Production of a certain model or part for sale is related in whole to the market.
They did us EBT modelers a great favor by producing the hopper and trucks. But without new locomotives for new modelers the EBT will always be a small part of the narrow gauge modeling world.
They would need firm orders for a couple of thousand pairs of trucks to make it theasable for another run of trucks.
I did my best part by purchasing 75 hopper cars and many pairs of trucks! I will need less than fifty more pairs to outfit the rolling stock still on my work bench.
The likelihood of there being enough modelers to get another run is very slim in my opinion!
Just my thoughts . I am still waiting on my K-28!
Happy modeling!

Shapeways Prep Question

Dusty

My 'Gunnison' parlour car arrived. Looks pretty good so far. But until I remove the waxy stuff the siding is hard to evaluate.

I searched the internet for prepping Shapeways prints for painting and simultaneously reached a state of confusion and amusement. Conflicting opinions abound. Many suggestions for removing the wax. My concern with prepping is that there are numerous reports of flaking under the paint.

Anyone have some input or experience?

Re: A Trip on the EBT

Mark; I settled on the EBT as a railroad to model as the length of the whole thing was 33 miles.
I was able to get all the major towns and all the major mines in about an area of 1300 sq feet of bench work. The basement is only
1750sq ft. That leaves little area for walk way! You are correct everything pretty much has been scratched! Don’t really mind it but would be nice if one could get a new locomotive!
As the railroad had 1c19 I went to the point of getting ten along with
Eight k 27 !
I run them as daily operators and save the brass for special runs!
I know that there’s more than a few model EBT railroads but not sure where they are all located.
I would like to here from any and all EBT Modelers.
Here in the Cincinnati we have
Two very nice EBT railroads would like to know where there are any others! Let’s here from others.

Re: Shapeways Prep Question

Dale Buxton

Shapeways say to use “Simple Green” to clean up the “Frosted Ultra Detail Resin” . That being said it works pretty good. However, You need to give this resin a final rinse in “Isopropyl Alcohol”. Let me add an observation to this. This support wax or the resin itself has a strange quirk. If the wax is not cleaned off as soone as the model arrives. There is a powdery crystaline substance that starts to develope on the model surface. The only to parent this that I have found is to put a primer coat on the model that seals it.
