Re: Whats on the bench/Durango sand house question

RICHARD DONNA BELL

These are from the old sand house in Durango. The first photo is from 1981, and the other two were taken some years after that. There was no interior door, just a small partition between the stove and the lift. Hope this helps. Dick

Subject: [HOn3] Whats on the bench/Durango sand house question

I attached a few photos of my Durango sand house scratchbuild effort so far. I'm asking for help concerning what the door looked like between the sand bin and the drying house. I have been unable to find any photos that show that view. It seems like I saw a discussion somewhere with photos of the inside of the drying house with the equipment etc., and the process used, (it may have been Chama), but I can't seem to find the source again. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I have built one of their HOn3 Colorado Central cars. Build was very well thought through and it came out nice. Wish they did more HOn3 cars

Everything Mark said is correct.

One other issue can come up from the use of an external DVD drive on Macs from the last few years that have no media drive. While I had no problem getting one of my Apple SuperDrives to read the Hayden DVD, another SuperDrive I use from time to time (and normally reads any CD/DVD) took several attempts to get the drive to mount.

That said, there are some old-school MRs out there that prefer reading off paper, and with the prices NG&SLG back issues are going for on eBay, I thought the $350 for 60 issues in very good shape sounded reasonable. Still,  without a doubt getting 50 years of NG&SLG and Finelines AND Slim Gauge News in digital format for $150 is a much better deal.

But sadly, Bob’s compilation only goes up to 2014, and he’s told me directly that he and Bob Brown are not interested in keeping it up-to-date or compatible with current Macs.

Well, I recently saw the Netflix Minimalism documentary and realized I need to pare-down my stuff. That, and the Marie Kondo "Tidy-up” movement, motivated me to jettison my back issues, Next up is to scan my post-2014 issues and add them to my collection of NG&SLG PDFs.

That said, I’ll take entertain offers over $60  (+ shipping) on what I’ve listed. <finger-crossed that there is a buyer out there.>

Re: Performance guidelines

Dale Buxton

Yeah. The title of the test data box says "Model Railroading" at the top.

That was such a good mag. It had lots of how-to's in it. I also had this great series on modeling the RGS using standard gauge equipment. Though the editor Robert Schleicher was already working on the series concept. He kind of got the idea from an SD9 and a bay window caboose I painted up in RGS fantasy paint schemes. The SD9 was silver and black and the caboose was Rio Grande gold in colors. They were entered in a "Detail a Diesel"  contest at "Pro Custom Hobbies West" They caught Robert's attention and he put them in one of the early magazine issues. I think I still have a copy of that article somewhere. It was my first published modeling work.  A year or so later Robert started that RGS series. I just did it on a lark what if. What if the RGS had standard gauged?

Re: Turntable kit - a possible approach?

Russ Norris

Interestingly enough, Kitwood offered one kit for either Durango or Orbisonia.  They were almost identical except for different handrails and the fact that the Durango table operated by steam and the EBT one was an Armstrong.

I've had a handful of comments about doing the EBT turntable as a kit. This is similar to the one in Durango like Kitwood Hills sold. I bring this up because I am having EBT structure kits produced for me by Bill Banta under my Broad Top Mountain Models line. I could possibly, with enough commitments (money in hand) have a Orbisonia/Durango turntable kit produced BUT it MAY only be an "Armstrong" style and it would not be available for at least 6-9 months. IF there is interest I can discuss it with Bill.

Found this in my file folders! Does anyone remember the magazine it came from!
I believe it was published in 1985!
