HO Scale 1920s Automobiles

Eric Schrowang

Good Afternoon,
Are there any manufactures of HO scale 1920s autos? Keith Wisemen has a great selection of trucks but I can't seem to find any passenger Automobiles in HO scale from the 1920s time period.

Thank You
Eric Schrowang

It’s sad that we don’t have the Walthers ones any more. Those were such a joy to use and did a fantastic job being spiked in.

For those who hand lay their track, I finally ran out of my supply of small spikes and ordered some Micro Engineering small spikes. I ordered four 1,000 piece packages and dumped them together for use. When I started using them, I discovered two different types. One had smooth shafts and small heads. They were a joy to use. Some have serrated shafts and enormous heads, some of which actually hit the flanges of rolling stock. I am able to shorten and flatten the heads of the serrated spikes, but doing this for thousands of spikes is torture. I have no idea if the two types were in separate packs or mixed in the packs, but I sure hate those ones with the big heads. Are these serrated spikes the norm or is this just a bad batch?

I think everyone want the new owner of Rio Grande Models to do well and do things right the first time.  Lets all give him the time to get it running great and his stock up to handle the orders as they come in.  I think we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude for continuing the fabulous line of model miniatures.

Interesting.  If you click on Shopping Cart you get a page saying your cart is empty and a link to BROWSE STORE.  Click on that and you can order women's shoes, watches, jackets, pillows, sneakers and a Bart Reed Outdoor cap.  ????????????

This is early in the game so to speak, as the structures and rolling stock and other castings are not yet clickable links or available to purchase. I assume that will come soon.

Narrow Gauge Book Sale

Peter Smith

Greetings,

Hal Shaffer, a local narrow gauge modeler, passed away recently leaving an extensive library of railroad books—over 250 titles, both hard and soft cover. I am assisting his widow, Melba, dispose of the collection. In the interest of moving the books rapidly, she has priced them at around half their going value, plus shipping. Unless otherwise stated the books are in good condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notations or highlights. Probably read once and shelf stored thereafter—you know how that goes. The subject matter runs the gamut of American narrow gauge. Buyers will deal directly with Melba. I am just the facilitator.

If you would like to view the price list, e-mail me, off-list, and I’ll forward a copy to you.

Cheers,

Pete Smith

Think of it as a savings account for your retirement.  If you did like I did you have anything, including duplicates and if you liked it a whole bunch probably a triplicate of what ever it was stashed away.  Now comes that retirement day, maybe a move which required packing it all up, then the move, Then the unpacking and you discover 3 of what ever, so hellllllooooo eBay.  Now you have another income as you say, what did I buy that for, or what ever.  Last year I sold about 25K worth of stuff I had accumulated.  I had every FSM kit, most of Model Master Pieces, BIS, and Master Creations kits.  Nobody has a space big enough to put all stuff built in place.  So for now it is a hidden piggy bank for later use. hahahahah

Too funny Ric.

I am 57 and still working, teaching engineering. Even so I have this fear I won't be able to buy what I want train-wise in retirement.  I have been amassing kits, detail parts, trucks, couplers, decals and "projects" (engines that aren't running or rolling stock with issues) in the hope that retirement will be this quiet nirvana of model railroading......Maybe I am nuts but right now since I only get an hour or two a week for the hobby, it brings peace of mind to know those 3 MDC shay kits with complete NWSL gearsets, new motors and detailing sets will be waiting for me. I hope the motor grease doesn't dry out. I am sure the paint will. =)

Brian I was in the middle of a purchase years ago for the little alisan shay! Had it in lay away and had paid over half, when the s o b that owned the shop decided to just sell it to another person! Had a heck of a time getting my money back from him. He wanted to give store credit!
Never went back to the shop again!
Store is long gone but still have bad feelings about the deal!
We are talking thirty years ago!
Lay a way was the only way I could buy anything over twenty dollars!
