Re: Staining ties

When my stain evaporates over time and becomes too dark, I add denatured alcohol to thin it out.

You can try with a couple oz of stain and add a few drops of denatured and see if there are any adverse effects.

If you used 70% alcohol, it is not inconceivable that at least part of the alcohol has evaporated out and water isn’t as good a carrier as alcohol, IMHO. I think I would mix up a whole new batch of stain. The materials are cheap.

I have several of the Western Rails trucks on hand, but not the 3'7" D&RGW version.  These trucks do need a bit of cleanup.  At present, nothing produced by 3-D printing techniques, at least at reasonable prices, can match the surface quality of injection molding in polished metal dies.  But Western Rails does a much better job, on their in house products, than I have often had from Shapeways.  Notably so with their car bodies.  And in some respects, the detailing of these trucks go beyond what could be economically produced by injection molding.

Their 6' wheelbase BRB&L class 70 passenger truck is a particularly welcome supplement to the common 5' wheelbase passenger truck, appropriate for modeling Pullman narrow gauge and WP&Y cars.

I disagree with comment that the new owners of PSC don’t know what to do. I have had a number of orders fulfilled by them decently quickly, always with everything I asked for.  The only no I’ve had from them was whether the plastic HOn3 D&RGW freight car kits were being produced.   Brass parts, delivered.

Bodo,
I've not bought their trucks, but I have bought a couple of their SP NG cars (the A-Frame gon and the tank car).  They need a little clean up here and there, but are very clean over all.  the prints are very crisp and well detailed, with very little evidence of "layering" from the printing process.  They definitely know what they're doing.  Customer service is awesome too.

Ric,

do you have these BLACKSTONE trucks:

B370106

3' 7" Arch Bar Caboose Trucks, Pair, Caboose Red

3-foot 7-inch arch bar caboose truck

Or do you mean these (They are NOT CABOOSE trucks!):

B370103

3' 7" Arch Bar Trucks, Pair, Black

B370104

3' 7" Arch Bar Trucks, Pair, Boxcar Red

3-foot 7-inch arch bar truck

or do you refer to the Western Rail trucks?

If you have black and brown trucks, they are probably B370103 / 104 since the CABOOSE trucks only came in caboose red.

If you cannot obtain the Blackstone version of the D&RGW's standard 3' gauge freight car truck, other versions are available from both Kadee < ">https://www.kadee.com/truck.htm> (#716 & 720), and Precision Scale Models < ">https://www.precisionscaleco.com/> (#3025, 3025-1, 31902).

Some assembly required, for all but PSC's 3025-1.
