There is a C & NW (Wisconsin ) N G box car on display in a S G gon at the Duluth RR Mus. (Quite nice with a Mc Giffert log loader as a bonus. Didn't look to see if it had trucks.    Wayne Weiss

That is a Milwaukee car, I was told the name of the Original road but have forgotten it

There is a C&NW ng boxcar #10 at the Mid-Continent RR museum near Baraboo, WI. However it sits on Belvue and Cascade trucks.

Thanks for the info.

But after reading the RR of Az Vol 3 book (per the earlier recommendation) I think I need info on a Lichtfield car design circa 1883 or so.  (Amazing how much one forgets about a book read cover-to-conver over 30 years ago!).

Haven't checked out the Gazette or other magazine indices, that's the next step.

No luck at all lately

My sweet running Westside Models HOn3 Heisler #3 quit running all of a sudden.  Some wires connecting the commutator to the windings broke  (have I got that right?).  Checked Loco Doc, nothing listed for this model.  Any suggestions?

The shay fixer replaced my motor with a can and a new bracket and used fuel line tubing.
Ran great afterward.  I have not run it in a decade.

sounds to me like at least 1 of the wires (windings) on one of the poles of the armature has either broken or come unsoldered.
this is a fairly simple fix, IF you can get to it.
you may have to remove the motor etc.ect.ect.
if there is enough wire to re-solder it to it's proper place, you're done already.
if it's broken, unwind 1 "wind" of the wire, then solder it back to it's proper place.
done.

when i was a kid, I was forever rewinding the armatures (commutators) on my slot cars.
fewer wraps of wire meant they'd run faster...….

Mounted Blackstone trucks at 'base' height. No filing or washers. Determined from the Grandt book that top of coupler is SLIGHTLY below the end beam/buffer plate. Using .040 styrene on top of the 714 box I matched Kadee Gauge height and positioned the coupler in good relationship to the end beam. I'm going to assemble and mount the box on the shim upside down to expose the tabs for 'melt' welding later. My OCD kicked in so I decided to drill a hole in the shim for a piece of styrene rod that fits the hole in the 714 box. I use the 714 box as an alignment gluing guide because it won't adhere to the Dichloroethane, I hope.

While they are hardening I'll try to figure out how to add the buffer plate.

 I ACC'd 714 box to styrene shim. I assembled the 714 coupler. I 'welded' the virtually unglueable engineering plastic with an Opthalmolic Cautery tool. Similar tools are fly tying line cutters, veterinary cautery, skin care cautery and wax carver pens. Probably others?

I still haven't finalized the buffer plate/diaphragm thing to resolve coupler location.

Forgive the murky image. Color, lighting and phone camera aren't the optimal combination for my limited image capture skill set.

Sold 36, regularly use two sound equipped and am considering adding sound to the new one.  Old beat-up industrial boxcab #18 is regular power on log trains.

Crossing Pogue Bridge

A mile south of Orbisonia, the East Broad Top crosses Aughwick Creek on its longest bridge.  The bridge is composed of a pair of 105 foot Pratt deck girder truss sections and a deck girder bridge.  It still stands, although today the track and ties have all been removed and the stone piers supporting it are in dire condition.  But in the summer of 1950 Hallmark brass 2-8-2 number 18 hauls a string of empty hoppers south to the coal mines beyond Robertsdale.  I build the bridge from two Walthers Pratt deck truss kits and a Micro Engineering deck girder bridge.  You can see the train rumble over the bridge above some fly fishermen looking for trout in the Aughwick at this site:

Nate I can’t really answer your question as I have not enough information. The pulling ratio is directly effected by the type and weight of the cars! I have ten of them with added weight on the cab roofs! All of mine will pull ten BS cars up the 2% grade, I have pulled as many as 15 on a flat. 
Stock would not pull that great!
I have modified fifteen to look more like the EBT #7.
Still not perfect but looks good to me!

Hi Ric ! Would it be possible to do a short how to on adding the cab roof weight ? I assume some sheet led would work , but I haven't tried that yet . I use mine on a 4% grade and have to double head to pull any reasonable size train .....Thanks ! .....Mike

I used Bullfrog Snot on the rear drivers. Thinned it out as for "N" gauge use. Before the '"Snot" a Blackstone C-19 wouldn't even pull itself up a 4% grade. I lowered it to 3% and all works as expected. A C-19 takes four LaBelle passenger cars up with ease. Then again do you want to really pull everything with one locomotive?  Think helpers as that is how it was done before the "Mudhens" arrived. After that it was all history as they say. Paul.
