Bob, I can relate to your situation. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and my fingers don't do well with tiny things. Have you considered using Kadee 705's? They are more to scale that the 714's

Add a few drops of distiled water adn get a paint mixer, he MicroMark battery powered with a wand you stick in the bottle. It works great BEFORE the paint turns to a rock.

In the old formula of Floquil I add a little lacquer thinner to extend the life and I always store my bottle upside down. Be sure to clean the tops of the bottle and bottom of the cap well to give it

I had a hard time pulling the gear also. In the end, I cut off the shaft from the old motor. Put the gear on top of my vise and used a small steel rod to pound the remaining shaft out. I made
