Rumored HO Steam locos: Athearn
Leo Pesce <leo@...>
Keeping this thread alive, there is a rumor that Athearn will
introduce another type steam engine next year, but so far they will not tell which type. Has anybody heard anything? Me, I hope it is a Heavy Pacific. Cheers Leo

Are we sure about the scale? Spectrum G stuff has catalog #'s
starting with "8". My HO 2-8-0's stock #'s begin with "1". Perhaps these are G gauge? There are existing "B S" 0-6-0's in this price range FH

Re: Rumored HO Steam locos
BillD53A@...
Just heard from Kato...the 2-6-0 in the walthers catalog is a Japanese
National Railways C-56 prototype. Nice of them to answer!

Re: Rumored HO Steam locos
f-v-h@...
I betcha that Kato "C-56" is a Japanese prototype. The number is
consistant with JNR practice, and Kato does a LOT of world-market stuff we never see in the U.S.A. If it's Japanese, then if it's HO gauge it's not HO SCALE. The JNR in steam days was all 42" gauge, and a mite small. So the proportion is probibly more like 1:76. You might check out Kato's site. The answer could be there( I thikk I'll go have a look, too!)

P2K Articulated - orders closing
"Nelson Kennedy" <nelsonk@...
ECMR have advised their email list that orders for the first release of the
P2K H0 articulated are likely to be closed off by LL on Friday of this week. They have advised an expected list of $375 and a price from them of $245 which rather scotches the notion that this loco won't be discounted. Hmmmm, $245 sight unseen. If it were an SP type I'd have to be tempted - it is not a whole lot more expensive than the 25 year old bodied Rivarossi locos. But it is not suitable for SP so that settles that. Darn it. BTW, if any of you guys want to be kept up to date on what ECMR are offering you can request to go on their weekly email at ECMR1@aol.com You will need to tell them the scale that interests you as they have separate mailings for each scale. Nelson Kennedy Christchurch, New Zealand Ferrymead Trams, NZR 0 gauge, a little Espee H0 are at http://downunder.railfan.net

It's listed at www.walthers.com for $432, and the web page claims that it's in stock (!). It's says HO. Go to the walthers web page and search for 2-6-0. It's listed behind the IHC moguls. Thomas

Re: Winton 2-6-6-6
Jon Miller <atsf@...>
This is for you old timers like me. Has anyone ever seen a later model
of the Winton 2-6-6-6. There is a gentleman selling one of the earlier ones on ebay, but he was totally surprised by some of the pictures I have. These pictures are in a book by Louis Hertz titled "Advanced Model Railroading" published in 1955. It has many pictures of the Winton engine with many, many lost wax castings. It seems however that no one has ever seen that engine, they have only seen the earlier one that was all hand assembly. Any thoughts on this? I looked at Kalmbach's Locomotive Cyclopedia last night. It has good photos

of the evolution of the USRA 2-8-8-2, from early to late N&W designs. The obvious major changes are: - Small firebox to large firebox - Inside bearing to outside bearing lead and trailing trucks - Small to large tenders - Straight cab to slanted cab I think an early USRA 2-8-8-2 could be a starting point for a 250-series WP engine, the major sticking points being that the WP engines had slanted cabs and different crossheads. The rest of the details of course are easier to change, assuming your wallet can cough up the dough for brass parts. Thomas Beutel

Decals for Missouri & Arkansas
Brad Bourbina <bbbourbina@...>
Does anyone know if there are decals for Missouri & Arkansas steam engines out
there anywhere? I know there were some boxcar decals, but don't know about steam. I want to model an M&A Consolidation, one of the 40-class engines that came from the Big Four. Also, if anyone knows where I might find photographs of these, the info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Brad Bourbina ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

Re: Articulated budgets
Jon Miller <atsf@...>
Actually the price range in hobbies of $250/300 is really not that bad
compared to items in various hobbies. Model airplane engines I believe are in that range with many other things. But yes it is high for certain items in model railroading especially if one is on a limited budget.
