Don't forget the option of buying carcasses of old steamers like the chassis of a cast off Mantua/Tyco 2-8-2 or 2-8-0, or other similar steamers. The price will be much lower for a cast-off, partial, or broken steamer with the full set of drivers and most often all the required screws and rods intact. This is the sort of item you'll often find under the sales table at a swap-meet.
