I would like to pin a message so that when Messages are selected it is always at the top of the list. I can see how to pin a message when Topics are selected but I suspect my readers will view the message list under Messages rather that Topics.

If this, I suspect, is not possible are there any other ways I can keep a message showing prominently under the Message tab please?

You're correct, it isn't possible.  Only Topics can be sticky, not messages.  The only way to keep a message near the top is to send a new one.  You do have the option of making a sticky wiki page on the messages view.
