#subgroups #invitation - Is there a way to 'invite' all of the present Group Members to view/join a new subgroup? #subgroups #invitation

My group (of 100 plus-and-growing) has a high rate of exposure to certain health and medical threats. Many of us share 'hearing problems' or 'cancer-related' issues. From a former group forum (wahoo!' it's gone. It sucked!) we had a number of posts inre hearing research and interventions, for example. I created a Subgroup (Health.Medical.Discussion@) to continue this sharing of information (yeah, we know all about HIPPA), but separate it from the general messages. I'd like to 'pass the invitation on' to ALL. But I don't see a way to 'select our group membership list, or even 'click-to-pick' from it to gather what's already in a list to populate the invitation list.
Anybody got any ideas or workarounds?
Thanks!

Why not just post an invitation on your Main group and send it as a Special Notice?

Thanks for the reply, Chris. I could. In fact, when I created it an automatic message went out to All announcing that I created it. But I’d like to go beyond that.

Keeping in mind that an Invite includes a ‘join’ link, the announcement did not. And an invite also allows for an explanation of the purpose and such to be part of the Invite. Neither of those were embedded with the notice that it was created.

I’ll have to ponder this a bit more. Your proposal does have merit. I might be able to ‘clone’ the invite message – with the link – and send it if nothing else comes up.

Dan,

You need to export your main group membership email addresses to a text file first so you can use that as the source of the subgroup Invite recipients, so go to main group settings -> Members -> Download, which will either save the file as a CSV file to your Downloads folder, or open it in the browser window depending on browser setting. (if so, just use copy and paste to save it into a file with the CSV extension.

That file contains the email addresses plus other account info so you need to then edit that file so only the email addresses are left in it, one on each line; do you have Excel or another app that can read and easily edit CSV files?  If not, you can still do it manually, good thing it's only 100 members :)

Then go to the subgroup settings -> Invite, and you can either select Upload Addresses and select that file or if you have it already open, copy and paste directly into the text box will also work.  The resulting invitation will have the (accept) join link (not to the subgroup home page but the actual accept link) so all they have to do is click it and they'll be in.  "To accept the invitation, please reply to this email, or you may accept the invitation on the website."

Cheers,
Christos

Have you tried the Direct Add feature from your subgroup? You can just select the members you want from your main group and put them straight in. That may be a simpler solution for than editing lists of addresses, sending invites and hoping people respond.

The announcement should have only gone to owner/mods.  I don't believe you'll find it in the message archive.

If it won't cause friction, you could use the Direct Add as Christos and Andy mentioned to add everyone to the subgroup.  Each person would receive an email that they've been added that includes a link to be removed.  If you've set up a Direct Add notice for the subgroup, it would be included as well.

Why not just send out a post as a special notice with a description and link to the home page, a note to click the "join" button (with screen shot if needed) and include the subscribe address  If you use hash tags, you can tag this message appropriately and also pin it to the top.
You can also send it out as a monthly reminder so new members are made aware of the subgroup.

BTW - thanks for being one of those who runs towards the fire.
