"only moderators can edit this wiki" - but I'm an owner?
Doug Lucas <dlucas@...>
Would anyone have a second to help me understand - what have I done wrong? The wiki that I'm developing is suddenly telling me that "only moderators can edit." But I'm the owner? What did I do wrong? I've looked through all the help documentation. No joy. Thanks in advance for your time.

Yes – definitely says “owner” by my name in the members list and beside the “Home” link. What else could be wrong? And – by the way – thank you so much.

This isn't an answer but a workaround would be to temporarily change wiki permissions in your group's settings.

I’ll try that! Pete, it was nice of you to take time to respond.

Mine’s grayed-out as well, Bruce. But, even though I’m noted as “Owner,” up by my “Home” button, it won’t allow me to edit it. I have a lot of development to do during the next 7 days. Gulp. I sure hope I can get this working.

Pete, I tried this. It let me edit. Then I switched it back to “members can view, moderators can edit,” and now, as Owner, I can edit again. Shew. Thanks! Not sure why that cycle seemed to “restore” permissions, but it worked!

There's nothing wrong (per se), things are working as they should. >>> For some reason, I can no longer change the page edit permission, but as Owner I can still edit it. See screenshot. That's because you and Doug have the Wiki permission set to "Users can view, mods can edit"; that greys out the "only moderators can edit" checkbox. If you were to set it to either of the two "Users can view and edit" options, the checkbox will then enable, it's kind of a granular wiki page-level permissions bypass so even if allowing users to edit, certain pages could still be locked. I do agree however that the "only moderators can edit" checkbox caption is a bit misleading; "only admins can edit" or "only owners and moderators can edit" would be more precise me thinks. Or even hide it, because if you think about it, if any of the "User read-only, mods read-write" settings are selected, the meaning of it really becomes redundant/not-applicable/superfluous to the wiki editor: I'm an admin and I have set Wiki permission to "Users can view, mods can edit" or below, and then I go to edit a wiki page, I already know only admins can edit the pages, I don't really need to be told/shown/reminded. For some reason, Christos, this particular Wiki had locked me out. I wasn’t even paying any attention to the grayed out checkbox . It just wouldn’t let me edit. Switching permissions, then switching back restored something – and now I can. Thanks for trying to explain it though.

I'm glad that all is finally working fine for you, Doug. Christos is right. I suspect that whatever temporary bug you experienced has nothing to do with the "only moderators can edit" notice you saw; it's just a coincidence. We have a public group with a private subgroup for our small choir. Only the owners/moderators can post to the public group but in the Group Settings at the bottom of the home page it says "Only moderators can post to the group". The way I see it, all owners are de facto moderators (re. their admin rights), but all moderators are not owners.
