Re: same suffix on all groups

Neil,

Anyone one have an idea why all of my groups have the same suffix??
If you're referring to the From: address all being Support@HamApps.groups.io, note that the From address is that of the sending member, not the group (the group's address is in the To field).

Your screen-shot looks like Thunderbird. You may want to go to the Options, and on the Display page click the Advanced tab then uncheck
|_| Show only display names for people in my address book

That can confuse matters if for some reason you have multiple Email addresses in your address book with the same Name. Even worse when you have email addresses in the Name field, which is what I suspect.

If that's not the issue, then I'm with Chris - unable to figure out what you mean.

You can put your group (or just some people)
in "Moderated Mode".

If you do so, then only the messages approved
(or post-edited) by you will be posted on the
group...

Subject: [GMF] Prevent cross-posting?
---------------------------------------------------

Hi,
A few of my group's members are in another group together. Both groups are restricted access. These people sometimes copy
the other group when they email my group (the groups are on related topics). This causes a mess when people reply (people
replying to responses from the other group that most of us didn't receive, changing subject lines, lots of irritation).

Is there any way to prevent cross-posting? If not, are there any creative ways I could block emails being also sent to
this one specific list?

Thank you!
Rebecca

For now, the greatest problem is:  When they get the confirm email message and come back to the group, establish their password, etc., they are asked to pick a group from a list.  Since the group is private, it is not on the list.  What do they do to select our group?  (I don't remember what I did!)
First, you can invite them. That is fairly easy. They will have to accept the invitation email.

Even easier is if you pay for just 1 month of Premium and then direct add them. Nothing for them to do. They are all set.

You can also email them and ask them to send an email to you:
You can send a blank email to [GROUPNAME]+subscribe@groups.io  substituting the real group name for GROUPNAME.

They don't have to establish a password in order to get email from your group or to go online to your group homepage. See this -
https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In

As far as them finding your group, it sounds like they are going to the group and trying to create an account. They have an account if you have approved them as members or if they have accepted your invitation or if they have been direct added to your group.

Here is info about direct adding - https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Direct-Add-Members

Here's info about inviting - https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members

Joe -- Check the time zone field for the calendar entries vs what you have set up in your account (https://groups.io/account?page=prefs). If these do not match this problem can occur.

While we're at it, check your Default Sub Settings (button at the top of your Settings page) to ensure that incoming subscribers get assigned to the correct time zone.

I have a weekly reminder for our ham radio group to meet for an on-air net at the same time every Thursday evening.  The reminders were set up for 10 minutes prior and I think it was one day prior.  Both are now being received about an hour or so AFTER the event.  All of the times were set up properly.  I tried recently to go in and change the calendar but when I click on edit the event I get the screen for a new calendar entry.  I have flushed my cache and rebooted the system but no fix .  Would appreciate any help available.

What's special about a tablet in this respect? A standard desktop PC behaves in the same way.

More correctly the column shows what the group owner has decided will be visible to non - members or members who are not logged in, and that might include Messages / Hashtags / Wiki.
Good catch - apparently I hadn't logged out on any devise except iPhone and iPad since joining Groups.io

I don't know whether or not Frances has provided the answer you need, but for myself I don't know what you mean by "suffix".

Can you please clarify?

Well, I think it has to do with the way digests work.

Full Featured Digest will group the days messages into batches of 12 and send each batch when the twelfth is posted. Any that remain at the end of the day will be sent as the final (or only) digest of the day. The digests include the full text of each message, omitting any quotes of prior messages. Full Featured Digests include at the top a list of the enclosed topics, clickable as links to take you to that topic.

Plain Digest works the same way, but is sent as a text/plain email message, with no clickable links.

So you have an active group that needs more digests in one day.

Dear Support,
GMF is not the official 'Support',
it is users (generally Owners and Moderators) helping other users
but you are asking at the right place

One of my initial new users of a new forum is claiming that they cannot see the menu column below Home.
ON A MOBILE PHONE:
On an iPhone there is no left hand columns,
but a menu bar below with the choices:

-If not logged in:
"More"
when I touch "More" the left hand menu appears.

-If logged in:
"Messages", "New Topic", "Chats", and "More"
when I touch "More" the left hand menu appears.

To log in, one must touch the 'Hamburger menu'
(the 3 horizontal bars to right of the word "Groups.io in the blue band/bar, near the top of the screen)

ON A TABLET:
On an iPad the left hand column only contains "Home", until they log in
(Log In is near the right end of that "Groups.io blue band/bar, near the top of the screen)

Is this an issue with perhaps an old or unusual OS and browser. The user may not be very IT skilled, so I am keen to advise and support. They may not even understand OS and browser.
I do not know of such an issue with a laptop or 'computer'

Martin; do they understand the concept of being logged in? What you reported sounds very much like not.

And sorry to say this is not Support!

Chris (G8...) Yes; it's me.

Many of the instructions given here in GMF assume a full-size screen. Screen widths narrower than 960 pixels are considered "mobile" by groups.io. One of the effects of is that the left-side menu bar collapses into a More "hamburger menu." See example below.

Site navigation can be a little more clumsy on phones and small tablets.

It could also be that the subscriber is simply not logged in. Send them to https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In for instructions.

Beyond that, providing a screenshot would be useful to help us troubleshoot.

I'm having an issue where I'm trying to remove myself from a group, and even though there are several other owners, it says I cannot unsubscribe because I am the sole owner! Is this an issue anyone has had and been able to resolve?
First, make sure you're unsubscribing, not deleting your account. If you're hitting a red button and being forced to type "I understand," you're deleting your account, not unsubscribing from a group. The simplest way to unsubscribe is to find and click the unsub link in the footer of a group message. Or send a blank email to GROUPNAME+unsubscribe@groups.io.

Failing that, make sure the "several others" are actually Owners and not Moderators. Go to https://groups.io/g/GROUPNAME/members?p=,mods to get a list (again, substitute GROUPNAME with the actual name of your group). Those who are Owners should have a blue Owner (not Mod) badge adjacent to their email addresses in this list. More info at https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List

If you're the only one, the system is doing what it's supposed to. See https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Promotion%2C-Status-or-Permissions-Change-to-Moderator-or-Owner for instructions on how to promote someone else to an Owner (hint: change the Role field). Having done that, you should then be able to unsubscribe.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Sounds like you're not logged in; or perhaps you are logged in, but using the wrong email address.

See https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Group-Content-Is-Missing for remedies.
