You can do that if you export your database in JSON format and then import it again to create a copy.

That seems to be a spammer domain that gives out anonymous email addresses.  One site says that all emails received from it contain links to malware.  At one time, Mark was blocking all domains that allow anonymous email, but I don't know of a list of them.

Re: Certain email addresses marked as "invalid."

I am also having an issue with an email address that looks valid to me being marked invalid.  In my case, the address is of the form
abcdef12345@...
This isn't the actual address, however the local address does have six letters followed by five digits.  The domain is mypacks.net.  To make sure I'm not being bitten by unicode, I have retyped the address by hand, to no avail.  I've also tried both the email by itself, as shown above, and entering it as
firstname lastname <abcdef12345@...>

Is there any way to see the actual validation function used by groups.io, so it might be possible to see what the actual problem is?

Copy a database?

Peter

We would like to copy the structure of a database to create a new one - retaining the original.  Is this possible and, if so, how does one do it?

TIA

"Cannot convert blob"

I get this message every time I get ready to reply to a message in my group. It is in red and I can delete it.

Any way to stop it from appearing?

No, you can't change that.

donotreply email address

We recently implemented a SPF policy. Now instead of this From address appearing for our members:

main@groups.[domain] <digestnoreply@groups.[domain]>

we now see

digestnoreply via groups.[domain] <digestnoreply=groups.[domain]@groups.[domain]>

Is there any way to set how the Digest form "from" address gets populated?  We just want to get rid of that digestnoreply as it isn't very descriptive to our subscribers. Ideas?

Fixed it! In case anyone else runs into this issue...

Using safari browser --> Preferences > Manage Website Data > Remove All
Reboot and fresh log-in.

Glad to have found this group. I have a feeling I'll be checking back often!

Bizarre Glitch

Laura Croome

Hi!
Hoping someone has experienced this weird glitch and can offer some advice...

I have a subgroup: PeopleAndCulture
And I want to add a Group Email Address: peopleandculture

For some reason I keep getting the error message Cannot contain spaces, pluses, or underscores, 34 characters max.

'deopleandculture', 'peoplenandculture' etc. no problem but peopleandculture prompts the error mesage.

I have tried clearing my browser cache and restarting my computer but the same issue.

Thank you in advance for any help, this is driving me crazy!

Laura

This part seems unnecessary. An open but unused account isn't going to hurt anything. If you're concerned that someone will gain access to it and do damage to the group, either downgrade him or unsubscribe him.

If possible, it might be easier to have the family delete the account, https://groups.io/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/deleting-your-account.  If they ask GIO to do it, be sure that it's clear they only want the account closed, not the group.

Any Dependency on Initial Group Owner/Creator?

Marty Wise

I am one of a couple of co-owners of a group that was created by another gentleman several years ago. He passed away recently, and I am trying to figure out if there is anything we need to do to ensure that the group is not dependent in some way on his original account and whether his family can safely ask that his account be closed.

I have searched this forum for phrases like "transfer owner", "original owner" and so forth. All I have found are posts where people are asking if ownership can be recovered when the sole owner of a group has become unavailable for one reason or another. Many people stress the importance of having multiple "owners" to avoid this.

So... we have multiple owners and will ensure that this remains true going forward. From the sounds of it, groups.io got this right, understanding that group members (and owners) may come and go over the years, so there is nothing further that we need to do. Can anyone whether this is true or not?

Re: Invoice for paid version of Groups

Thanks everyone for your responses, much appreciated,

I have been to Accounts > Billing and clicked on the "invoice number" but what I get is not an invoice but a receipt - it's even headed 'receipt'. So perhaps the number should be referred to as 'receipt number' instead.

Nonetheless, if the USA doesn't have a VAT charge then we don't need to worry about it.

Cheers, Christine

Is this on the web or in the app?  Might make a difference.  It works fine for me on the web - just type in and click arrow.  There have been a bunch of changes made in Chats over the last few months, so a bug may have snuck in.

Hello - I have a member of subgroup who is able to join a chat. But when she tries to contribute by clicking the arrow on the right of the text box she says nothing happens.

Appreciate any help on this.

My info is based on what I've seen in other groups since I've never used donations.  The amount shown is just a reminder and doesn't control donations.  It's up to the person that opened the request (or another owner/mod) to close it when a sufficient amount has been donated.  (It can later be reopened if so desired.)  All funds, including any excess, are forwarded to the account that was set up on Stripe to receive funds.
