Are you logged in? Can you see Subscription in the left menu. Your own info is there - subscription, email activity.

If you are the group owner or moderator, can you see Admin?
If not, then you aren't logged in with the correct email address - the one you signed up with.

If you can see Admin, you can check Activity in Admin.

But if you don't see anything in Messages, and the messages on the homepage of your group are not clickable, you aren't logged in.

The archive is labelled as Messages in the right sidebar.

If you don't see Messages, it may be because you aren't signed in with the correct email address.
For example, see this group has public archive- try it with private window or a browser where you aren't signed in:
https://groups.io/g/updates

And this group has a private archive.
You can see that there are messages - numbered chart (message history), but you can't read any because of the private archive.

What are you actually looking for? There is no tab for "Archive", but there is one for "Messages". At the risk of stating the obvious that is the Message Archive.

So I'm trying to set up an automatic trigger that will send a groups invite to any new members who sign up on our website, and another one that will remove from Groups anyone whose dues payment lapses (like, their membership expires). My quick search is not turning up any leads.
I suspect that would require some API programming on your part ( https://groups.io/api ). I don't know of anyone who has actually done it.
Kevin -- I've been wanting to do this same thing, and we occasionally receive questions from people asking how to automate certain features of groups.io. So I did some more investigating, and here's what I was able to come up with after about an hour of scanning the API docs.

I'm assuming that you're collecting new user information (specifically, their email addresses) using a web form. To invite someone automatically based on form data, you will first have to activate Client URL ("curl") on your web server. Usually, it will be active by default; if yours is not, contact your hosting service for instructions.

Now create a login instance under your own group administrator account. This can be done with the following command:

curl "https://groups.io/api/v1/login" -c "cookies.curl" -d "email=youremailaddress@...&password=yourgroupsiopassword"

The resulting local file "cookies.curl" will contain your login information to be passed back to groups.io to validate future commands. The command will also return a (very long) success report containing all your groups.io account information along with a 19-digit "csrf token." Your PHP code will need to parse this and capture the token in a variable for building subsequent curl commands.

Having thus logged in, you can now run the following command to invite the new user whose email address you previously collected from the form.

curl "https://groups.io/api/v1/invite" -b "cookies.curl" -d group_name=yourgroupname -d "emails=addresstoinvite@..." -d csrf=1234567890123456789

The above sends back the cookies.curl file to validate that you're still logged in, and provides the GIO group name to invite to and the email address to invite. Of course, you will have to build the above command line by concatenating a number of variables and static strings. [The API docs suggest that the csrf token is optional, but groups.io failed to act on my request when I issued this command without it.]

When you're done, be sure to log off:

curl "https://groups.io/api/v1/logout"

A useful github widget to convert curl commands into php code can be found here: https://incarnate.github.io/curl-to-php/

The process for removing someone is similar:  Log into groups.io via curl as before, issue a different curl command to remove the person, and log back out. However, the remove cannot be done using the email address; it requires a "member_info_id." I'm sure there's some separate API command that enables you to obtain this ID from the email address, but I'm leaving that up to others to investigate.

Some comments on logistics:  As much as I'd like to do this with my own group(s), I not only have to collect user information, but also validate that an applicant has paid membership dues. We are using a series of PayPal "buy now" buttons for this purpose. I don't know of a good way to get back validation information from PayPal, link that with the web form that was submitted, and use that combined information to initiate the sending of the curl commands. The form and the payment buttons aren't even on the same page...mainly because we don't require existing members to re-enter their information for renewals.

Similarly, when removing someone, the hard part is knowing when to initiate the removal. Usually, there's a human being responsible for this. You could write a batch job of some kind to send the appropriate sequence of curl commands to remove someone, but you still have to somehow provide the email addresses involved and manually start the job. In practice, I'm not sure that's going to be much easier than removal using the existing web interface.

Finally, please note that curl is already installed in the command line interpreter that comes with Windows 10/11. Type "cmd" in the search box and press Enter and you can test out these commands on your desktop.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Kevin -- Paid groups have access to an integration with Slack to keep your group's membership in sync with your Slack team. I know nothing about Integromat or Zapier.

We are a membership service (SF Beekeepers) and our dues-paying members are supposed to have access to our Groups forum. So I'm trying to set up an automatic trigger that will send a groups invite to any new members who sign up on our website, and another one that will remove from Groups anyone whose dues payment lapses (like, their membership expires). My quick search is not turning up any leads.

The Slack integration is automatic and does not involve sending invitations.

Ah, I see where the "payor" info is documented and, in fact, had read that earlier. Apparently, that's what gave me the "permissions" idea (in the last line of the first paragraph).

Duane,

Thank you. I looked at the cited webpage (...?page=billing) and my credit card and payment from last year are shown. Since you wrote that "only one payor is allowed at any time", I guess I need to infer that I am the only payor associated with the nanovna-users group. Where is "...?page=billing" page documented? Where is the information that you so kindly provided documented? I have never seen any of that before.

I still do not see a place from which to make this year's payment.

No.  You can check your own status at https://groups.io/account?page=billing.  It's possible that someone else made themself payor which would remove you.  Only one payor is allowed at any time.

Is there, by chance, a setting somewhere that identifies which owners have "permission" to make the payment to groups.io? ISTR a mention of such permissions from something I read a while ago.

It will initially be sent only to the person that paid last time (payor).  If there's a problem with payment, a notice will be sent to the payor.  If there's no payment within 7 days, a notice is sent to all owner/mods with Billing permission.  See https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/about-groups-io-billing/billing-notifications

Re: Billing Question

Duane,

Okay, well, I am the payor. I did read the cited webpage. I have seen no notices, either at the 14-day mark or at the 7-day mark.

The webpage should note the 7-day notice as well as the 14-day notice.

Billing Question

Dave Daniel

The Owner's Manual reads that, for groups billed annually, groups.io will send out a payment reminder 14 days before payment is due. My group's payment is due today, which I intend to pay once I find the link for doing that.

However, I never saw a billing reminder. It should have been received (or sent, anyway) on 1/14. What am I missing?

Thanks
DaveD
