Never mind -- I found a whole bunch of posts on this topic on the groups.io site. All is well.

It's waiting on input from the member.  See the thread https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/19246621

I was wondering the same thing about one of my members. I scrolled down to the bottom and it said in blue send confirmation email. I clicked on it and it still has NC in the membership roster.

Re: #poll results incorrect? #poll #bug

Thanks, Duane. Infinite Scroll doesn't work. Instead, it just gives a false sense of security. I changed back to 100 per page.
If I wanted to use Infinite Scroll, or if I were just one of my members (who wouldn't bother with their preference settings), I would have to reply to all those who voted for choice one of my poll by emailing those who show on page one, and those who show on page 2, of the 25 members who voted that way.

I've reported this as a bug to beta.

Hi Duane,

it really works!
I had selected this time zone in general, but when I saw that it is UTC+1 h I changed it to a time zone with “+2h”

Wrong assumption…

Many thanks

Hans

There are several choices for UTC+1.  You'd need to find one that observes summer time and choose it so that times would be correct.  I believe that the first of those listed, "(UTC+01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna", will work.

Hi Victoria,

thank you for the answer, but I already tried to outfox the “calender” with this trick, but it didn’t help.

I think, that an extra option or an automatic detection will be needed.

Hans,

I think you can find this in the calendar feature. Scrolling all the way down on the right you find “time zone”, and there also is “UTC + 2”.

Hallo all,

maybe I'm just too silly, but I hav not yet found an option to set the MESZ (middle european summer time = UTC +2h) which
would be needed to send out invitations to the team correct.

Any suggestion or is it still a bug?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

Re: three yahoo groups to one GIO group? #subgroups #transfer #yahoo

Roy,

That's how I was planning to organize it. I was mainly asking about transferring the Yahoogroups, with each groups' files/archive/etc.  Can it be done properly and automatically, or will I have to do anything special, or what, without scrambling/overwriting ?

The only thing special about transferring a Yahoo Group into a subgroup is that the Members of the Y!Group will be copied to both the subgroup and its primary group (except when a particular member's email address is already in the primary group).

With that in mind I'd recommend performing the transfer of the primary group first, so that those memberships get copied from the main Yahoo Group. That will copy their Join Date, Email Delivery preferences, and Posting Privileges from primary Yahoo Group. If the subgroup were transferred first I'm not sure that would happen, I think those individuals would end up with default settings in the primary groups.io group.

Re: Is there a way to force "via groups.io"? #issue

Pete,

Not true. While -some- email servers use the envelope-From in SPF validation, -all- Exchange servers (most enterprise and business servers including Office 365) use the actual from address as well since this is a common form of spoofing.

Perhaps read "-some-" email servers as every email service other than those powered by Microsoft Exchange.

I guess that explains our disparate perceptions: I'd have to guess that the vast majority of the members of groups I've moderated (and the groups those members have moderated) have been consumer users, with mailboxes provided by Google, Yahoo Mail, AOL, and others not based on Exchange. For these services I've only seen aligning the header-From with the envelope-From in conjunction with DMARC.

So I had been unaware that there was an ongoing deliverability problem with Exchange-powered mailbox providers, if Mark mentioned that earlier I must have missed it. But that's where my perception that you were talking about a fringe case came from.

I realize you don't like or have experience with Microsoft Exchange or its common deployment (it also does not directly implement DMARC), but it is the most used enterprise and business mail server.

You are correct that I don't have much experience with Exchange. I don't really have a like or dislike opinion of it, the one Exchange-based email address I have is a PITA to use, but I believe that's mostly a matter of security choices made by my client. Example: no IMAP/SMTP access, I have to use their webmail interface.

Oh, and I'm not subscribed to any email lists via that address - so I've had no exposure to whatever issues that might entail.

BTW, Yahoo has always supported having groups show the From as being the group, not the user so it would pass server tests that the from is not improperly originating from a non-domain-owned mail server.

Unless you mean the option to hide one's email and IP addresses, I've never heard of such a thing. Before that 2014 Yahoo Groups blog post I cited, all header-from addresses passed through Yahoo Groups unaltered -- as stated in the blog post. I have ten years of examples (2003 to 2013) from various Yahoo Groups consistent with that behavior.

I guess I need to open this over on the beta group.  Thank you for letting me know where to go with this issue.

You're welcome. All-in-all I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner when you said "crickets".

Re: Timeline for group transfers

Leeni

I manually set up my IO group and set the wheels in motion for the group transfer to happen.
I sent invites to all the members in my Yahoo Group and then when the Yahoo Groups started working again, 2 days later, I sent an note to the group telling them we are moving. At least IO group is working and we can wait until the transfer happens whenever.

I think it just takes awhile.  I have about 2-3 groups waiting.  I just had one transferred a few days ago, had waited for weeks.  The others were all done by me same day.  I am just patiently waiting. dash

It doesn't.  EDT is four hours difference from Greenwich Mean Time, so it lists your time zone as "GMT minus 4".  GMT is the same timezone as UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) and examples of offsets from UTC are given here:

with details on UTC-4:00 here:

Re: Disable Members from reading Messages from Homepage

Leeni

Well what I did was I made them unavailable for non subscribers. So that is a good thing.

Then I went to each message and locked them. This way no one could request a tag from the archives.
They all need to be requested from their email that they receive.
If I wanted this to be a message board - I would reopen my proboards forum LOL

But thanks, I will make it a suggestion. It would be a good idea to have something where only the Mods and Owners could have access to.

Ilene,

In Yahoo I had the archives or conversations unavailable to members. I'd like to do the same thing for IO Groups ...

That option is not available in Groups.io.

I think your only option would be to post it in the official "suggestion box" as a new option for the Messages section:
https://beta.groups.io/g/main

At present, the only thing you could do to make them unavailable would be to delete them. But that would make them unavailable to the moderators/owners too.

Re: #poll results incorrect? #poll #bug

Duane

You can change the number of items you see per page.  Go to your Account, select Preferences, and change the Items Per Page setting.  Most of the time I use 50.  Infinite Scroll doesn't work on some items, like databases, but not sure if it works on Poll results.  If not, you may want to use 100.

Re: #poll results incorrect? #poll #bug

Southenders Admin

I'm afraid it's a bug. Only 20 respondents appear per page. There were two  respondents on a second page, which is why there is a total of 22 on the see results page vs 20 on the see who responded . The bug is a different one, though. When you want to reply to those 8 who voted for answer #1, you will only reply to the 6 who are on the first page. You have to go to the second page to send an email to those responders separately. I have 150 members.
