re emails and attachments again

WBennett

I've just been in and checked and the emailed photos album containing attached and inserted images is 930 MB.
It is such a pain to have to delete them one by one, so I'm wondering if I delete the first 2000 emails on the group, whether the associated images would also be deleted from from the emailed photos album.
I have asked on my group whether anyone actually LOOKS at the old messages and the photos, and no one is interested in keeping them, so I could safely delete all the early messages.
I know that the messages are not counted as storage, my query is whether deleting the emails would delete the photos or would the photos still be there and I'd have to delete them manually one by one anyway.
I also know that I could do nothing and let the old photos be deleted to make way for new ones as they come in, but I want to be more proactive than that.
Could you also send me the link to the group owners manual? Thanks
Win

It depends on when the group was started.  See https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/25069

This bug manifests only if you use "Infinite scroll".

Cannot Open Member Records Beyond First 60 Members

Mike Patterson

I’m the creator and an owner of a few small free groups supporting a non-profit organization. The largest group has a little over 350 members and was created in June of 2009. Only one other of these groups has more than 60 members, and was created in October, 2019.

I’ve found that, for both of these groups, I’m able to open an individual member’s record page by clicking in their row in the members list only if they are within the first 60 members listed. I can re-sort the list by any column, forward or reverse sort order; and the member record will open for the first 60 members listed only. Clicking on the 61st listing or beyond does nothing.

I’ve tried it in three different browsers (Firefox, Edge, Brave) with the same result. I could find nothing to help me in my searches of the Owner’s manual or in this forum’s messages and wiki

Because it happens in more than one group, I assume it has something to do with my account settings rather than a group’s setting. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this?

Thankx,

Mike

Is file storage available for free groups up to one GB? or not at all?

Do you mean Premium or Enterprise?
https://groups.io/static/compare

Were any of the members bouncing? Any NC (not confirmed?)

All members were lost, or just some?

How did you downgrade? Did you do it through Admin, Upgrade, Change Plan?

Christos:

Yes, it will; AFAIK, the individual's Override setting takes precedence over the group setting.

Thank you, Christos. I wonder if that would work the same way with attachments.
In my group attachments are not allowed, but I'd like to limit their use to owner and moderators.
If I set my group as "Attachements: moderated" and then I set my moderators' to "Override: not moderated", will they be able to send attachments in the group bypassing moderation?

Re: What to do with NC-members?

John Pearce <jj.pearce@...>

Something I have done in the past.  I have a junk yahoo email address that I don't care what happens to it.  Spam, etc.  I'll send them a message about their NC status from that email address explaining the situation and what they need to do about it.  I have the text saved as a sticky note (windows) so I can copy and paste quickly.  I do have a premium group but I don't confirm someone that I don't know.  I do the same to people who have marked a message as spam, different saved message though.  And another for bouncing members depending on the bounce reason.  I originally got the idea to use a different email address outside of groups.io when they are only bouncing because groups.io has been marked as spam by their email provider.

NC members cannot post or receive messages from Groups.io.  If they log into the website they will see a banner saying they need to confirm their account (words to that effect).

What you can do about them depends upon the type of group you have, Basic or Premium/Enterprise. The Owner's Manual has a section on Handling Members marked as Not Confirmed.

While I'm not 100% sure that it will still be the same, I did that last year on a test group and no legacy features changed.

I have a few groups I made over time that I did not do much with. If I change the name to try to get a rebranded group off the ground, will it affect the legacy status of the group?

Thanks.

Re: ISP Address

My apologies for flying fingers while typing.  This should have been IP Address.
The issues the group is experiencing are not spam.

Perhaps the moderator will correct my topic to IP address so the next user will have an easier time searching. I did search before I submitted topic, but there is a LOT of content in this group.

This link is very helpful.

Yes, it will; AFAIK, the individual's Override setting takes precedence over the group setting.

I laso wish to clarify if "Messages that start new topics are moderated" would clash with the "New User Moderated" setting.
No it won't; when the NMM count goes to 0, the member is automatically reset to the group default setting, whatever that may be.

There are many spoofed addresses attempting to join groups right now. Most are Yahoo or AOL. Groups.io management is attempting to ban them as they arise, but it seems to be a case of whack-a-mole.

ISP Address

We have a Public group... do we have access to ISP Address when a new unknown member subscribes? I have access to this info when I approve members at INVISION's forums.

There is some unusual behaviour in my group of stitchers, so I prefer this message is not actually posted to the Forum, but really need an answer.

Thanks - moderator Tamra
