She can set an alias for the one that she wants to send from if she plans to use it much.  See https://groups.io/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/setting-account-preferences-and-viewing-account-information

Don't fret, it's $20 for groups formed after last October when the price went up, but it's still $110 yearly for your groups because they were created before that date and therefore grandfathered-in with that price.  So it will be $220 total for the two groups you created back then; or $240 ($10 a month each if you go that route) if you switch to monthly.  If you downgrade and then re-upgrade again it will switch to the $220/$20 price.

Cheers,

As long as you stay on the Annual plan, it will remain at $110/yr.  It's when you switch to monthly payments (or free) that things change.  This seems to be a bit confusing to many, including me, because of the changes that Mark has made.  Also see https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/77395648

I feel bad about that.  It costs money to host this platform, and I don't like to free-ride.

You may be legacy enabled / grandfathered at $110. See this thread.

Did the member change her email address through Account (top right corner) on the group homepage?  yes

 See https://groups.io/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/setting-account-preferences-and-viewing-account-information

If this doesn't help, more info needed. Perhaps it is as simple as a typo in her email address.

Maret <CCC3@...> changed email address from CCC3@... to CCC3@... via web

You can check a member's activity

https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/reviewing-the-group-s-activity-log/reviewing-member-activity

From Admin, Activity, choose Member Activity, then use the dropdown menu to choose Changed Email. Click on Search.
Double-check the email address is correct.

Anguishing about renewal #pricing

K Ruffing

My ex-Yahoo group, a tight-knit community of about 200 alumni from a small government agency, made the move to Groups.io last fall.

We were really lucky!  We paid $110 for a premium membership; the price doubled just a few days later; some groups paid a premium on top of that to transfer their content; we didn't, we patiently waited our place in the queue, and eventually the transfer (10 years' archives) happened seamlessly.  For that, we're really grateful.

Now it's time to renew our plan.  Premium pricing is now $20 a month.  We're a very plain-vanilla group, don't need a lot of storage or add-ons, and I'm reluctantly opting to switch to the free plan.  (I pay out of my pocket. I could certainly afford $110, and last year I just told members who politely asked about cost to contribute to our group's "adopted" charity instead of reimbursing me.  $240 is...well, more than twice as much.)

...when she tries to reply to someone elses, it won't let her send it.

The only obvious answer is that when she tries to reply, the reply is being sent from a non - registered email address.

Q1: Is she receiving emails from Groups.io on her new address?

Q2: Does she get an error message from Groups.io when she tries to reply?

Q3: If the answer to Q2 is yes, what does the error message say?

A pedantic point, perhaps, but Groups.io does not "won't let her send it". The message may not turn up in your group but that is not the same thing!

Q4: Have you looked at your Activity Log to see what is reported there?

Q5: If yes, what does it say?

       If no. then please try that and report back here.

Ask her to check the address from which her reply emails are being sent just to verify that they are being sent from the registered address. If she is sending from an incorrect address then something is happening (or not happening!) at her end.

Chris

Er, yes. Earlier in your post you included the following:

I set the group to "Announcement-Only Group/Only Moderators are allowed to post".

The answer is therefore that anyone you want to be able to post has to be a Moderator. No other setting will achieve what you want.

What I can't figure or find out is, how to convert email messages from a YahooGroup that you have since the Get My Data download into the mboxrd format that Groups.io requires
I don't use Apple, so this is only based on info from the 'net. You should be able to export from Apple Mail to an mbox file, but I don't know for sure if it's mboxrd as needed. You should be able to open it in a text editor to verify the formatting. Once it's in the proper format, you'd need to append it to the data download file, creating one big file to be imported.
I don't believe it needs to be "one big file":

I have the YahooGroups GetMyData download for a YahooGroup that finally has agreed to move to Groups.io. Its nearly 18,000 messages are in 10 mboxrd files (all are 10.5 or 10.6 MB, except the latest which is 691 KB).

This is consistent with the GetMyData downloads of my YahooGroups that were migrated to Groups.io in June 2018.

Apple Mail (and I understand other email clients) easily Import those YahooGroups GetMyData downloaded files to display messages the same way all messages are.
However Apple Mail seems to Export in the default mboxo format...

All messages since 2019-12-29 (the last in the 2020-11-27 dated GetMyData download) from this group are still individual emails.

Online searches for: How to Export email messages in mboxrd format
only yield:
explanations of what mboxrd is vs the default mboxo format, or
how to Import email messages in mboxrd format

Doesn't anyone know how to do this?
Or can recommend a tool, app, or service?

I've asked Mark at <support@groups.io>, but no answer yet...

Help would be appreciated,
Michael

Re: PROBLEM: Setting Posting Privileges for Announce-Only Group

Here's Help page info about Announcement groups:

Announcement-Only Group

Select this checkbox if your group is to be an announcement-only group rather than a discussion group. Only moderators will be allowed to post messages to the group.

Example: Groups.io Updates is an announcement-only group.

You said you put the individuals who you wish to be able to post as override.
No, change them to moderators. In some groups, including this one (GMF), we are all moderated including group owners and moderators.

See instead: https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-moderators-and-additional-owners/making-a-member-an-owner-or-moderator?single=true

The group name may be used by a group that has not chosen to appear in the publicly accessible list of groups.
Or the name you have chosen may not follow the rues:
  • The Group name must be 34 characters or less and cannot contain spaces, pluses, periods, or underscores. (length verified Mar 8, 2020)
 See Help also:
  1. Note:
  • The name cannot contain spaces, plus signs, slashes, periods, or underscores. (Hyphens are allowed.)
  • It is possible to change this name later but be aware that renaming an existing group has repercussions. (See Renaming groups.)

PROBLEM: Setting Posting Privileges for Announce-Only Group

JamesIngram.net

Subject:  Setting up a public announcement group, with just a few “Announcers"

PROBLEM: I can't seem to find the right combination of settings to do this.

I want to set my public announcement group so that ANYBODY can join to just RECEIVE messages (with no posting privileges), but only a FEW designated “Announcers” have privileges to SEND messages.

=============
WHAT I DID:
=============

* In the Group's Settings > Spam Control area:

I set the group to "Announcement-Only Group/Only Moderators are allowed to post".

~~~~~~
* Then, for one of the members for whom I wanted to give Announcers privileges:
In that member's "Posting Privileges" area:
I set that member's permissions to "Override: not moderated" setting.
PROBLEM:  But when I tried to send a message using that Announcer's email address, it was REJECTED with the message "This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.".
QUESTION 1:  There does not seem to be any combination of settings available, to have a just few Announcers, and many “receive only" members ???
  •  (I don’t want to give the Announcers Moderator privileges, because a lot of them have no idea what they’re doing.)
QUESTION 2:  Am I missing something obvious ??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MORE FYI COMMENTS:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the previous Yahoo group (pre Verizon disaster), I recall just simply setting the Yahoo group to "Announcement Only", and then changing the few designated Announcers to "Override, this member is not moderated” -- and that worked fine.
(The previous Yahoo group was https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/railnet , and the new group is https://groups.io/g/railnet .)
I'm a moderator. I got the information here, then went to my group page and saw the notice there. No email to me.
I immediately wrote the existing membership, telling them where to move. They will or they won't. I will now remove their shortcut from my computer. The end. It was great when it was great, and then it became a horror.
