Now it's time to renew our plan. Premium pricing is now $20 a month.Don't fret, it's $20 for groups formed after last October when the price went up, but it's still $110 yearly for your groups because they were created before that date and therefore grandfathered-in with that price. So it will be $220 total for the two groups you created back then; or $240 ($10 a month each if you go that route) if you switch to monthly. If you downgrade and then re-upgrade again it will switch to the $220/$20 price. Cheers, Christos

Anguishing about renewal
#pricing
My ex-Yahoo group, a tight-knit community of about 200 alumni from a small government agency, made the move to Groups.io last fall.
We were really lucky! We paid $110 for a premium membership; the price doubled just a few days later; some groups paid a premium on top of that to transfer their content; we didn't, we patiently waited our place in the queue, and eventually the transfer (10 years' archives) happened seamlessly. For that, we're really grateful. Now it's time to renew our plan. Premium pricing is now $20 a month. We're a very plain-vanilla group, don't need a lot of storage or add-ons, and I'm reluctantly opting to switch to the free plan. (I pay out of my pocket. I could certainly afford $110, and last year I just told members who politely asked about cost to contribute to our group's "adopted" charity instead of reimbursing me. $240 is...well, more than twice as much.) I feel bad about that. It costs money to host this platform, and I don't like to free-ride. Just wondering whether Mark and team have considered a cheap-but-not-free model?

This is consistent with the GetMyData downloads of my YahooGroups that were migrated to Groups.io in June 2018. Apple Mail (and I understand other email clients) easily Import those YahooGroups GetMyData downloaded files to display messages the same way all messages are. However Apple Mail seems to Export in the default mboxo format... All messages since 2019-12-29 (the last in the 2020-11-27 dated GetMyData download) from this group are still individual emails. Online searches for: How to Export email messages in mboxrd format only yield: explanations of what mboxrd is vs the default mboxo format, or how to Import email messages in mboxrd format Doesn't anyone know how to do this? Or can recommend a tool, app, or service? I've asked Mark at <support@groups.io>, but no answer yet... Help would be appreciated, Michael

PROBLEM: Setting Posting Privileges for Announce-Only Group
Subject: Setting up a public announcement group, with just a few “Announcers" PROBLEM: I can't seem to find the right combination of settings to do this. I want to set my public announcement group so that ANYBODY can join to just RECEIVE messages (with no posting privileges), but only a FEW designated “Announcers” have privileges to SEND messages. ============= WHAT I DID: ============= * In the Group's Settings > Spam Control area:
~~~~~~ * Then, for one of the members for whom I wanted to give Announcers privileges:
PROBLEM: But when I tried to send a message using that Announcer's email address, it was REJECTED with the message "This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.". QUESTION 1: There does not seem to be any combination of settings available, to have a just few Announcers, and many “receive only" members ???
QUESTION 2: Am I missing something obvious ?? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MORE FYI COMMENTS: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the previous Yahoo group (pre Verizon disaster), I recall just simply setting the Yahoo group to "Announcement Only", and then changing the few designated Announcers to "Override, this member is not moderated” -- and that worked fine. (The previous Yahoo group was https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/railnet , and the new group is https://groups.io/g/railnet .) |-------------------------------------------------- | Thanks. - James Ingram, http://JamesIngram.net | Williamsport PA, Apache Junction AZ |--------------------------------------------------
Re: Fw: Announcing the Shut Down of Yahoo Groups
Sandy Kozinn
I'm a moderator. I got the information here, then went to my group page and saw the notice there. No email to me.
I immediately wrote the existing membership, telling them where to move. They will or they won't. I will now remove their shortcut from my computer. The end. It was great when it was great, and then it became a horror. Sandy
