No. See the FAQ section at https://groups.io/helpcenter/faq/1/group-owner-moderator-faq/q-what-is-counted-towards-the-storage

Ronaldo,
[this is getting a bit Off Topic. ]
I use Pegasus Mail http://www.pmail.com/
When I do a Reply there are some options, one of which is :
Prefix text included from the original with '>' markers
Note that this is usually a 'sticky' setting here and that I have switched it Off.

Hope that helps.

OK,
Tony

Or perhaps not, IMHO. Depending on who can read your group message archive this can be a handy tip - off that your home is going to be unoccupied.

If you do want to shut down all group traffic then this suggests that you do not have another moderator for your group. Unless there are particularly good reasons for this being the case then it is better that there is someone who can step into your shoes just in case there is ever a reason why you cannot manage your group.

If it is just for yourself, you can just go to Subscriptions and change your subscription to No Mail (if you allow that) or Special Notices Only.
There are other notifications that you would want to turn off as well  - moderator notifications.

If you wish to stop anything coming to the group, you could lock it temporarily.
https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/locking-and-unlocking-groups-and-subgroups

Or in Admin, change it to Announcement which stops everyone from posting except owners and moderators.

Just don't forget to change it all back!

I would warn group members that you are doing it - "going on holiday!"

Apparently Yahoo didn't transfer our photos to io.
Annie -- That's very possible, and in fact, likely. As I'm sure you know, Yahoo Groups was not performing well. There was no way to access any content that the Yahoo servers failed to provide. Photos, in particular, were very problematic.

Mark did the best he could, but it was necessary to check this at the time your transfer was completed, and perform a re-transfer of just the Photos section or anything else that didn't make it (or move that content yourself, manually).

The transfer completion email you should have received was very thorough; and if you still have it, you should read it again. It should have told you you exactly what content made it, and what didn't.

Is it possible they may be somewhere besides the photo folder.
No.

Bruce

It's how some (most?) email clients handle quoting.  You may not actually see
it, depending how/where you reply, but it's implied.
I'm not sure what you mean. Decent emailclients allow interspersed replies. Maybe microsoft-dictatorship ones don't.

It's also how the site handles it.
Which site?

OK, I checked the Owners Manual and find this:

"Exception: If your group was created before August 24, 2020, the downgraded Basic group will retain the calendar, chat, database, member directory, files, photos, poll, and wiki features."

Our groups were created before January 1, 2020, so it looks like we can downgrade and keep the features.  That solves a lot of problems, thanks.

Re: Downgrading to Basic? #attachments

Thanks, I'll certainly try the backups.  We aren't using more than 1GB of storage now, so I'm not worried about that, but we do have a few MB of old photos.

If the original main group address (groupname@...) still works when a subgroup is created, do to the other addresses such as groupname+subscribe@groups.io also still work?

See recent topic https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/downgrade_and_keeping/77370589 , and https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/upgrading-or-downgrading-groups/downgrading-a-premium-or-enterprise-group .
If I understand correctly, if your groups were created before this year, you have 'grandfather rights' for them, and they will retain the files, etc. features (so they remain available)
To download your groups' data (which you might want to do just in case), see https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/exporting-or-downloading-your-group-s-data

This is relatively new territory since not many groups have downgraded.  The first thing you should do is go to the Settings page and use the Export Group Data button at the top.  Select the things on the list that you might want to save so it can be stored on your computer.  I'd suggest getting everything the first time, just to be safe.

I don't think anyone is quite sure what will happen if you're using more than 1GB of storage.  I think it's likely that you'll lose some attachments, especially if you've chosen to Delete Old Attachments for Storage Limit Reached, when that job runs on the servers.  Mark hasn't given us many details on what will happen to the rest of the stored items - files, photos.

The pocket photos were in error most likely, but just in case, I'd open the message they belong to and have a peek, and if they were indeed sent accidentally, you can actually delete the message itself and it'll take care of all of them at once, no need in this case to delete one pic at a time.

Cheers,
Christos

Downgrading to Basic? #attachments

We're considering downgrading our 2 groups from Premium to Basic, for financial reasons.  If we do this, how do we retrieve files, photos, and databases that were transferred from Yahoo?  Also, what happens with attachments in a Basic account?

Photos from nowhere? #photos

Karen Ivy

I was reviewing our groups' storage, and find that the Photos directory has a section labeled "Emailed photos."  A few are actual photos that someone attached, but most are just sort of blank GIFs, about 1K in size.  Looking at the associated messages, they're related to emails I sent after we moved our groups to Groups.io; but those emails didn't have photos or anything else attached.  They contain URLs to PDFs which I posted on our organization's web site.  And yet I have these photos that look like someone's smartphone photo of their pocket.  Can I delete them without affecting the messages?  We don't use that much space but this is pure waste.

Subgroups storage question

Ginger Iorizzo

Hi,
I have a basic group that is grandfathered in to have subgroups. If we create subgroups, will they each have 1G of storage, in addition to the 1G allotted for the main group?
Thanks!
