Mark did the best he could, but it was necessary to check this at the time your transfer was completed, and perform a re-transfer of just the Photos section or anything else that didn't make it (or move that content yourself, manually). The transfer completion email you should have received was very thorough; and if you still have it, you should read it again. It should have told you you exactly what content made it, and what didn't. OK, I checked the Owners Manual and find this:
"Exception: If your group was created before August 24, 2020, the downgraded Basic group will retain the calendar, chat, database, member directory, files, photos, poll, and wiki features." Our groups were created before January 1, 2020, so it looks like we can downgrade and keep the features. That solves a lot of problems, thanks. Karen

Thanks, I'll certainly try the backups. We aren't using more than 1GB of storage now, so I'm not worried about that, but we do have a few MB of old photos.

If the original main group address (groupname@...) still works when a subgroup is created, do to the other addresses such as groupname+subscribe@groups.io also still work?

If I understand correctly, if your groups were created before this year, you have 'grandfather rights' for them, and they will retain the files, etc. features (so they remain available) To download your groups' data (which you might want to do just in case), see https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/exporting-or-downloading-your-group-s-data Jeremy

If we do this, how do we retrieve files, photos, and databases that were transferred from Yahoo? Also, what happens with attachments in a Basic account? This is relatively new territory since not many groups have downgraded. The first thing you should do is go to the Settings page and use the Export Group Data button at the top. Select the things on the list that you might want to save so it can be stored on your computer. I'd suggest getting everything the first time, just to be safe. I don't think anyone is quite sure what will happen if you're using more than 1GB of storage. I think it's likely that you'll lose some attachments, especially if you've chosen to Delete Old Attachments for Storage Limit Reached, when that job runs on the servers. Mark hasn't given us many details on what will happen to the rest of the stored items - files, photos. Duane -- The official Groups.io user documentation is in the Groups.io Help Center. Re: Photos from nowhere?

The pocket photos were in error most likely, but just in case, I'd open the message they belong to and have a peek, and if they were indeed sent accidentally, you can actually delete the message itself and it'll take care of all of them at once, no need in this case to delete one pic at a time.

Downgrading to Basic?

We're considering downgrading our 2 groups from Premium to Basic, for financial reasons. If we do this, how do we retrieve files, photos, and databases that were transferred from Yahoo? Also, what happens with attachments in a Basic account?

Photos from nowhere?
#photos
Karen Ivy
I was reviewing our groups' storage, and find that the Photos directory has a section labeled "Emailed photos." A few are actual photos that someone attached, but most are just sort of blank GIFs, about 1K in size. Looking at the associated messages, they're related to emails I sent after we moved our groups to Groups.io; but those emails didn't have photos or anything else attached. They contain URLs to PDFs which I posted on our organization's web site. And yet I have these photos that look like someone's smartphone photo of their pocket. Can I delete them without affecting the messages? We don't use that much space but this is pure waste.

Subgroups storage question

Hi,
I have a basic group that is grandfathered in to have subgroups. If we create subgroups, will they each have 1G of storage, in addition to the 1G allotted for the main group? Thanks! Ginger

Thanks. Being an intermediary is a challenge since I can't sit with the member these days!! The real problem is so many different operating systems and what I tell an Android user differs with Windows,or Apple, etc so like I have at least 10 emails on how to search a message. I've just sent the group the group help page. Thanks.
One more thing. Please define Archive messages. We rarely archive anything will the search for archived messages include recent messages? Tnx again.

Although I have never seen it set in tablets of stone anywhere, the role of Owner or Moderator really requires the postholders to acquire as much understanding as possible about the workings of Groups.io and keep up to date with the changes as they happen; that requires a commitment that individual members are unlikely to exhibit. If an individual member comes along and asks a question, are they likely to pass it on to others who encounter the same problem? I suspect not... Being a group Owner or Moderator brings a fair degree of responsibility with it. Chris
