Understood, Ken. But when this was discussed years ago on beta, that event was beyond the horizon.

But you do bring up a very good point. Perhaps no one should be able to change the email address of a group owner except that person?

Does there exist a definitive, up-to-date table or list of GIO features vs the status of a group.
You can see what your groups have by going to Admin, Upgrade. But this is for your current status, I am fairly sure.
Thank you Francis for the link. As the group in question is still in premium status, there is no "upgrade" choice under admin". However, going to a basic group that I created last November there was an upgrade choice and I could verify that subgroups and files should still be enabled.

In looking over the various documents and posts that relate to groups/subgroups created prior to January 15 I found a lot of ambiguity and inconsistencies.
For example:
admin > upgrade states that subgroups are "Legacy enabled" while the owner's manual states they will be "accessible".
The GMF wiki says "Groups ... are grandfathered, and are "allowed" to have subgroups."

What exactly do these terms mean? "Accessible" could be read only as could "enabled". "Allowed" could have restrictions.
The owner's manual doesn't help much. In fact, in the downgrading section, the sentence defining applicability is a bit convoluted and more confusing than clarifying.

I hope that the intent is to continue full read and post access after a downgrade and it would be very reassuring to have an official confirmation of that policy.

Another ambiguity appears in the Help Center FAQ pages:

"All features become unavailable except those related to sending and managing messages."

What features, exactly, are those related and not related to managing messages?

I suspect there is going to be a flood of similar questions popping up here in the next few weeks.

Re: Owner is able to change member's email address

I moved seventeen lists from YG to groups.io Basic (Free)  over the last two and a half years.  Three YG lists ignored the impending YG collapse and
nastily rebuffed my assistance.  When they finally realized the YG end was near they had to pay someone to move them and become Premium lists.
Even though I am owner/co-owner/moderator of 17 Basic lists; I also belong as a long time member to three ex YG Premium lists who have considered me
a trouble maker for encouraging lists to move to groups.io, having to pay for a $220 Premium subscription just rubs salt into their wounds.

IF they have been reading this topic they now know that they, as Premium list owners, can change my e-mail address, without my knowledge of the new address
and lock me out of ownership/co-ownership/moderator/member status of all the lists on groups.io I have subscribed.

The assumption that list owners who didn't foresee the collapse of YG, were not bothered by the many system failures, and waited until it was shutting down
and then had to move paying a Premium penalty are experienced and knowledgeable is at best naive.

Dotty, your detailed chronology is an exact description of what I've received. I just hadn't remembered until I read your account. So yes, what I got was a notification, not an actual bill. I've just re-read it and it says that I will be billed (an unspecified amount) for the next 12 months on October 17th. My idea that I am going to be charged $220 this time was based on the price list I saw when I clicked on the link in the notification.  I only looked in the Payments tab under Admin after Bruce replied to my previous post.  I'm relieved to find that it does show my renewal rate is $110. Thank you Bruce and Dotty for the clarification.

You can get what's available by going to https://groups.io/account?page=bounces while you're logged in.  On the right side you'll see the message that was returned by the email service for each bounce.

Profuse apologies. Lately my mind has become loosened from it's moorings, or so it seems. When I read Jim's post about his group having been billed $220 instead of the expected $110 I "remembered" the notice I'd gotten charging me likewise. But I've just checked Payments under Admin and I have been billed $110.00. (My previous payment was 10/17/19). So sorry for the unnecessary post and any confusion I may have caused to other readers.

If you get a message of any kind from me that looks strange, like asking about your Amazon account for instance, it is SPAM! Just delete it. I have changed my Email password but they already have my contact list. L

I may have to change my Email address which will kill me. I’ll let you know.

The spam message used my Email address and went right through IO to all my group members. I don’t know how they did that and whether IO should be able to block that?? Experts?

Chris,

I have plenty of storage available.  Plus I deleted the videos and still the message is stuck in pending.

If I don't find an answer here sometime today, I will reject (if I can) and have the member try posting again.

I am a member of a group that bought a premium subscription on 16 Oct, 2019 at the original price of $110 and it was my understanding that even if the price increased (which it did a month later) that we would be grandfathered and stay at the $110 price.  However the group I am in has been sent a bill for the current fee ($220 ?) rather than the price we were told we would be charged.  What gives?
I also received my "friendly reminder" emails from Support today for my 2 Premium groups that will be renewed on Oct. 20.   Just to clarify, these support emails did not state the price of renewal.  I have received no "bill" for any amount.  The emails did contain links to the Plans and Pricing page and also the page to "change your plan or downgrade to the free plan".  If I click on either of those links, the information there does imply that the Premium price will be $220/yearly.  However, if I look at my Admin>Billing page, it clearly states that my next payment will be due on Oct. 20, 2020 in the amount of $110.  So, I question that JIm or Deborah have actually received a "bill" for $220 renewal.  I suggest they go to their Billing page and look in the Payment section to see how much the upcoming payment will be.  Hope this helps.

Reject sends it back to the sender in case they want to modify and resend.  Delete doesn't notify them.

Well, glad it wasn't GIO! ;>)  I was going to reply to your post about the trace.  I don't see anything in there where it connected to GIO, only the 198.162.x.x addresses.  Those are private addresses used within a work-group/factory/local_network, so I suspected they weren't actually going out.  Thanks for letting us know what it was.  I can mark it off my list of things to look into.

Well it might be.

(a) How much of your group's storage is currently occupied?

(b) Is your group set to delete old attachments to make way for new ones?

Bruce's suggestion of using cloud storage somewhere is probably the best solution anyway.

I deleted the videos.  Saved the changes.   Tried to approve.   Still did not work.  Message still pending.

Attachments are Base64-encoded before being stored in the message base. That can easily double their size.

Have not tried rejecting it.   Thought about doing that and asking the new member to try reposting, but figured that is the last resort.
If you do have him repost, I suggest sending them in separate messages...or [better] put them in cloud storage and send hyperlinks to the group.

Good luck,
Bruce

I'm not sure what you mean. Sending a message back to sender? "more quoted text than original" seems like a weird criterium

I've always thought that something similar should be re-introduced! Maybe
an option for a GIO upgrade?
If it were up to me, the automatic deletion of all quote under the last unindented line would be standard, and not just in digests, but too many feel otherwise...

Hi Chris

Thanks for your reply.  Most efforts to approve the message have been directly on the groups.io site.  In one of the previous topics on this subject, Mark has had to do something to fix it.  Activity log showed nothing of interest.

The message in question does have two videos attached to it.  Could that be part of the problem?
