Ref, a path to help for orphaned groups
1. Start your own group
2. Post to the old group that it is being discontinued due to lack of an owner. Tell them how to join the new group.
3.If they are interested they will respond, if they are not interested they will not respond
4. "Priceless" archives can be cut and pasted.

Am I missing something?
I think what we have is a specific solution looking for a problem. There are other possible solutions.

I know that at one time there was a drop down box to choose the format for messages, possibly also wiki pages.  I suspect it was changed to the way it is now because it would be unusual for someone to not use the same for everything (as in your case.)  I used to use plain text for messages until I realized it doesn't really make any difference on most groups.  If the group is 'plain text only', you can only compose a plain text message online and any emailed in will be converted.  Now I've got my account preference set to HTML and all groups work as they should.

Yes, but not here. You'll have to do that in the beta group (https://beta.groups.io/g/main).

Expect that I want all my message posts to be plain text but my Wiki entries to be HTML !!!

Having to change the User Preferences every time seems “less than ideal”.

Could I suggest an option on add page to specify the format please?

Changing name of email sender for Calendar invites

John Mertic

Hi!

Had a question come in about calendar invites come in with the same email address as the list, but with the name of '<list name> Calendar'. Is that configurable at all? It seems to mess up mailers that cache the names of emails.

That's one of the places where having multiple owners works (and the situation doesn't arise.)

https://groups.io/account?page=prefs select HTML in Editor Preference.
To get to the linked page click on your name in the top right-hand corner, select account.
Select Preferences from the left-hand sidebar menu

BTW - I searched the https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual for the term HTML and the only results concerned email preferences. I couldn't find any documentation on setting up My Account.

If I remember correctly (iffy these days), these settings are done the 1st time a new subscriber touches groups.io when they have absolutely no idea what they're getting into, I know I didn't.

After tinkering around a while and they start figuring out what a great platform this is, those settings can become a distant memory.

why are membership applicants called "member" before even admitted?

This is the case in my groups before an applicant even has confirmed his/her email-address....

And I thought I had read in Beta that the terminology had been changed in such a way that an interested party applying for membership is not called a member but a candidate for membership...

Not everyone is ignored, only those that don't own a paid group, from which Mark earns his living.  By my most recent estimate, there are almost 4.9 million user accounts on groups.io, so it makes sense to me that Mark can't be expected to interact with each one individually.  IMO, I'd rather be ignored completely than get a canned response, as Yahoo usually sent, that has nothing to do with my concern/question.

One of my favorite quotes when I was working was "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

for clarification, a Digest contains the message text so there's no need to go to the Groups.io site. A Daily Summary just contains a list of topics with links to the message text on the Groups.io site.

Hi Karin

I see you have been informed of how to log in etc

Would I be right in thinking the subscriber you mention is receiving a digest or summary of posts? so then needs to visit the site to read the message in full?

If so, if she changes to individual messages she will receive them all with no need to log in and visit the site unless changes to settings were required

Its then just a matter of deleting those of no interest

Thankyou to all who replied, I find it unacceptable that there is no way to add another Owner, and to be ignored by the Owner of Groups.io is discraceful.

I'm pretty sure our Owner has passed away, no one has seen or heard from him in 18 months

It looks like a return to Google Groups is the only way, I never had a problem there.

If I haven't gone to the io site in a while, I get a message requesting my password. However, it also allows the option to get a link sent to my email address of record, which bypasses the need to enter a password, or create a new password. I am logged in again until they decide I need to re-enter my password...then, I request the lind again! It is also possible to Save a password in your browser, so that you don't need to sign in every time. Just depends how accessible you want things to be on your computer (or device?)

No and No.  It's possible to log in without a password, but it involves multiple steps, https://groups.io/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/logging-in-to-your-account?single=true

If you don't log out when you're done AND your browser remembers cookies, the site will keep you logged in for 30 days (which is renewed every time you visit the site) on each device.  Some browsers default to deleting cookies when closed, so that may be her problem.
