This just occurred to me.

If your messages are not moderated, you could set up your own NEW
group with a similar name, then make a post explaining the situation
and a link to the new group. You could also send messages to anyone
who posted in your group by finding the email addresses of members and
sending them the same information directly.

Note that by doing this, you will burn your bridges to the old group
as my guess is that you would be banned from it once the group owner
sees your post. So consider the repercussions.

If you know everyone personally, and have their contact information,
you could do all of this back channel and maybe everyone could leave
the current group once they joined the new group.

I know of a group my wife belonged to. The group owner was tired of
running the group and asked for a volunteer to take over. The new
owner started implementing all sorts of new rules. The group was one
that there were no rules, and that was part of the reason for the
group.

What happened is that someone started a new group and everyone moved
to it, leaving the original group with no members who would post. The
new owner of the original group backed off the rules thing and
apologized but it was too late. I don't even know if she was told the
name of the new group.

From the wording in the original post that is exactly the case.

Hi Deborah,

This situation sounds painful and distressing.  I am sorry to hear about your problem.

This sounds a little like the situation the City and County of San Francisco went through a number of years ago with a Network Admin who held onto access information and refused to turn it over after a labor dispute.

Maybe a little research into how they resolved (yes lawyers were involved) can provide some ideas and guidance on some options for you.

Hopefully the person holding your group hostage is not the only owner or moderator of your group.

Good luck and I hope this resolves quickly.

Hi to all,
For your information, Groups.io installed an update on the 18th of April
https://groups.io/g/updates/topic/site_updates/73101782?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,73101782
Now, the running is well with Orange ISP email addresses.
Best regards and thank you for the support team.
Take care everyone.

Re: No daily summary today? #subscription

Peter Cook

This happened again this morning in three different groups: no one set for daily summary received one. I've checked every account's email delivery history to confirm this. As with the rest of my group, email providers vary but most are gmail.

Does anyone else have members set for daily summary and could you check to see if they received this morning's?

Pete

Re: Communicating with New Applicants via main+Owner

Alan,

When responding as a moderator or owner, from the groups.io site, to
an application for membership and checking either the "Bcc Me" and /
or the "Bcc All Moderators" we are discovering that in no case are
"All moderators" in fact copied.
Note that each owner / moderator has a control in their Subscription page, in the Owner Email panel, for which +owner messages that person receives by email.

I believe the default is "Members Only", but some of your group mods/owners may have set theirs to "None". I have mine set to "All Emails" in every group I own or moderate and I don't believe I've ever failed to receive those BCCs.

Re: Emails from @groups.io not being received again

Hi Fred, did you opt as owner/moderator of your group to receive all emails?

I usually deal with pending from my email. Each is titled "Message Approval Needed - email posted to Groupname@groups.io

They are approved by reply & send, just like accepting groups.io invitations.

HTH,

Valorie

PS: Sometimes I search "Message Approval Needed" to deal with them all at the same time.

Can't be done.  Those variables are only for the system to use, Display Name and Email Address.  The boilerplate you quoted will always be sent as part of an invitation. All you can do is add to it.  See https://groups.io/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/inviting-people-to-join-a-group?single=true

Customizing Invitation Notice with Variables? #customize #invitation

Jessica Jorgenson

Hello!
So groups.io has the basic invitation:

Hello [Name],
You have been invited by [so-and-so] to join the Groups.io group [group].
If you have questions about this invitation, send them to [owner email].
To accept the invitation, please reply to this email, or you may accept the invitation on the website.
If you are not interested, or if [Invitee Email Address] is not your email address, please ignore this email.
Cheers,
The Groups.io Team

I would like to use the [Name] and [Invitee Email Address] in a custom welcome message. I tried sending an invite using the hard brackets but it was no bueno.
Any help?
Thanks!

False Alarm!

Groups.IO mail was delayed up to 5 hours for several hours. Other emails (that were being delivered to me) were not delayed.  The delay is now down to about 90 minutes and diminishing.

Communicating with New Applicants via main+Owner

Alan

Hello,

Our Groups.io group has two owners and one moderator.

When responding as a moderator or owner, from the groups.io site, to an application for membership  and checking either the "Bcc Me" and / or the  "Bcc All Moderators" we are discovering that in no case are "All moderators" in fact copied.

When "Bcc Me" only is checked, then the writer does get a copy.

We thought perhaps that a record of ALL the correspondence FROM the main+owner account would be recorded in the Activity Log, but that does not seem to be the case.

It seems important that all mods. should be able to read the correspondence from the main+owner account, especially when following up with a new membership application.

I would be grateful if somebody could let me know if there is something I am missing, or provide a workaround to address ?
Perhaps you could also check to see if the "Bcc All Moderators" button is glitch free ?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

If they're only a moderator in the subgroup, they'll have no authority in the main group.

Also want to verify that the subgroup can create/archive it’s own files, databases, etc., separate from the main Group??
For all intents and purposes a subgroup is entirely separate from the main group, with all the settings and functions.

After I replied this morning, I did some more testing and posted a question about it to the beta group, https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/73192217  If they haven't created an account with a password before applying to a group, the situation appears to be hopeless.

Yes, Mark Fletcher wrote on Beta group that some providers are throttling
email delivery for some reason.
In particular, Earthlink is one of the affected domains. Mark hasn't been
able to get in touch with a technical contract on the Earthlink side, he
reports.

Consider having the member contact Earthlink support asking for help getting
messages from Groups.io. It's a way to signal to Earthlink that members
value the messages that they receive from Groups.io, which _may_ help change
Earthlink's treatment of Groups.io's servers or help Mark get a response
from them.

Emails from @groups.io not being received again

Fred P Jones

I am owner of a large groups.io. group.  I can go to website to approve emails.  But I am not being notified that I have emails to approve.  Also when I do approve emails, they are appearing on website but a am not receiving them in my email account.  (My email settings is set to single.)

Are other groups having same issue?

P.S. I do have a comcast email address which was calling a similar issue earlier but I changed my settings to receive rejected messages in Junk and did receive greoup.io emails in junk at that time.  I am receiving junk emails now but none from groups.io.

Regards, Fred J

Subgroups

When a subgroup is created, will I (main group Owner), be able to select a Moderator for that subgroup?

I understand a Member of the subgroup must also be a Member of the main Group.  I want to confirm that the subgroup Moderator has no Moderator Access within my main Group.

Also want to verify that the subgroup can create/archive it’s own files, databases, etc., separate from the main Group??

Thanks!

Thanks Jim for documenting all the steps. This is useful information, although it seems to have a lot of steps.
I had a situation the other day where this is what I wanted to do, but I wasn't sure how it would play out, so I ended up just deleting one of the accounts.
Will know for next time.

Thanks for replying so quickly.  I would love to be able to go to Groups.IO directly, but it says that they will only answer the Administrator.  Our Club decided to go the Groups.IO route when Yahoo Groups notified us that they were shutting down.  We have years of data that was transferred to Groups.IO and most are unable to access this.  Do you have any suggestions as how I can get the attention of someone at Groups.IO to help or even to tell us we are out of luck.
Again, thank you for any help or direction you can give me.
