...
You already seem to recognize that the problem
is with the email provider Orange.

Groups.io has nothing to do with it.

Subject: [GMF] Orange & Groups.io issues
-----------------------------------------

Hi,

During a couple of past months, the emails sent by Groups.io to the Orange french ISP email addresses was delayed but
arrived after 2 min, 2 hours up to 2 days...

Recently, during the last weeks, I did not receive any email via Orange.

I am not in "Bouncing" situation and that concerns a few groups @ Groups.io and moreover a large part of the Orange ISP
users.

As you can see below, this is always the same error message sent by Orange...

I have contacted and sent a few reports to the Groups.io support but I did not get any answer.

So, where is the solution to improve (or solve) this very bad situation...

Thank you for any help.

Regards.
JJ

That's what many of us want.  At present, upgrading to Premium for a month once in awhile is the only way to do it.  (I don't use the extra features while in premium mode.)

I know Mark has considered other 'plans', but has decided to go with what's on the pricing page for the time being.  That was part of his decision about removing subgroups from Basic and adding storage for Premium.  That's not to say that there will never be other levels, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Re: Earthlink cust gets some mail from groups.io

Jay Sundahl

Earthlink has a setting (default I believe)  to delete known spam. Apparently groups.io ended up on the known spam list recently. I just worked through the groups.io registration process for an earthlink member who was't receiving the email confirmation. The solution in her case was to add noreply@groups.io to the earthlink address book to allow her to receive the email confirmation email.
We didn't get to changing the delete known spam setting, I should follow up on that, but she received the member welcome message and was going to add the group email address to her address book.
So you might suggest adding to the Earthlink address book any groups.io group email addresses if they have not already. Of course the intermittent losses may be entirely different.

Hi,

orange is a lousy ISP. It does not matter wether you use your
orange.fr or wanadoo.fr address.

My experience for at least the last 5 years.

In France there are other possiblitity to get a free mail accout.

Even if you cantact them about problems they dont't care.

The 421 error code suggests a temporary problem on the receiving end [you]. Specifically, it appears that your provider is struggling to handle the amount of mail coming in during peak messaging hours. Until orange.fr upgrades to compensate, you can expect to have delivery problems periodically.

As you noted, groups.io will retry to deliver messages until the receiving end accepts them. They may arrive late, but most of them *should* eventually arrive. There is nothing else that groups.io/support can do about this.

I hate to put it this way, but the ultimate answer is probably to find a different email provider.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: cost for one month?

I got the impression the OP is looking for a way for basic groups to “contribute” to GIO, not obtain features. I have thought about this also.
In a similar vein would others be interested in a “Basic +” plan at a lower monthly rate with additional storage and/or a limited number of sub groups or the Direct Add feature?

Gerry,

Offline storage has been discussed here a few times.  Then providing links on the main page as well as in the messages within the group.  With the messages in the group, a link to the larger storage can be placed in the footer of each email sent out.

Mega offers 50GB for their FREE accounts.  It's something we are working with right now.   I strongly doubt our group would need more than 5Gb looking back at the past 25+ years as a whole.

They already have an account once you add them.  All they need to do is access the site using the information Chris gave.

See this from the GMF wiki. It is not in any sense "secret" and can be forwarded to your members for their action.

It's possible to upgrade your group for one month now and then to support the site.  It would revert to a basic group after that.  See https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/cost_for_one_month/72065440

The request in the wiki is an informal one, an attempt to help those using other languages.  There has been no announcement about adding translations to the site, though Mark (the owner) has stated that he does want it to happen some day.  It's been a low priority so far, but there are more and more groups that would prefer to use a language other than English, so a suggestion on the beta group may be needed.

As of now, yes.  There's a discussion on the beta group (over 2 years old) that you might want to contribute to, https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/6248558

There's also been some discussion on this group, but no one from GIO management monitors it, https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/6220815

If members are allowed to create events, then it would be best to moderate the hashtags for #cal-xxxx so you can make sure they haven't asked for RSVPs while the upgrade is in effect.  (Mine are already moderated to prevent 'abuse' of the calendar system.)

Finally, check to see if you have any database tables with columns of type Address...the availability of map view might tip someone off.
As far as I can tell, the map view is available on a basic group, but cannot be set as the default.  There's a button/link included in the address field for [Map], so can only be used for one address at a time.

I'd check the email delivery history for that member.  If there are no bounces showing, then the service isn't delivering the messages after accepting them.  If there are bounces, then it's the service not accepting them.  There are several email services that seem to randomly bounce emails from GIO.  So far, complaining customers haven't resolved it completely.

I just realized that I may not have been clear on my first reply, https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/message/30471.  The correct order is:  You should send all of your invitations at once, there will be a short delay until they're approved if they go over the limit, then they will all be sent, possibly in batches.  A few people have reported that after the first delay, the next one may not be at the additional 20 limit, but there's nothing available from Mark about this.  Since it's done for spam prevention, the limit may move up as your batches are approved, but that's only a guess on my part.

How can I give a donation to groups.io?

Beate

Hi,

just beeing here for a short time I as admin really appreciate the
service given here.

Our mailinglist about the dog race Akita in Germany was founded March
1999. We moved several times (line somebody else discribed lataly)
from Ecircles to egroups to YahooGroups and now to groups.io.

As we only need an archive for our mails there ist no need to turn to
a paid account.

But I always give donations when I am using software which suits to
my needs.

Beate

Languages: Translation Help for Groups.io

Beate

Hi,

in the wiki I found that help is needed for translating.

I would like to help with German.

I am retired. Used to study Computer Science in 1968. First I worked
as a specialist for databases and a bit later the software tools
appearing on the software market.

Later on I specialised in technical writing, writing manuals and
later on online help for software which needs explaination (nearly
all does although marketing nowadays wants to make believe that
everything is self explaing ;-).

I wrote in German. Normally my texts were translated into different
languages English, French ... by native speakers.

I also took care of the quality management for the translated texts.
I am fluent in English and French.
