"private" messages sent from webpage not going through

Niman H

I just realized that messages sent from the webpage, off a post, do not go through to the member. Seems this has not been working since we moved the group over end of October (no wonder no one was replying!). We don't use it so often so hadn't realized. I tested it myself and no message came through to my personal account. I also tried taking off and leaving the word "private" which the system adds, but that didn't make a difference. I have received some of these "private" messages from fellow members from time to time so it can work, question is why it's not working for me from my mod address. I looked at the settings but didn't see anything that would matter.
Any suggestions? Or is this a bug?
(As a side note, a message sent from a pending post does go through - different mechanism?)
Thank you, Sally

The search indexer runs on a separate machine. It indexes keywords, hashtags, and updates the Message History table on your home page.

When Y!G imports were happening, this function could lag behind the import by as much as a day (ref: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/22697). Even now, if you post a message, the new message can take a little while to show up in a search. Not always, but often.

This is likely just a coincidence.

Re: strange people trying to join

Marina

Maybe I am becoming a little paranoid, but has anybody received strange joining requests on YG as well?
When I moved over to GIO, I locked my old YG groups and set up a special pending subscription notice informing applicants that we had moved here. My YG groups have been virtually "dead" for over a year now, apart from a strange flow of applications from Chinese addresses months ago, which I have reported here (https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/message/16376).

However, today, out of the blue, one of the groups (an announcement group) has received a request from a strange address at protonmail.com.
The message in the mandatory field reads:
"Requesting to join. Thank you!!"
(Which is suspicious in itself, since the group's official language was Italian.)

I am not that tech-savvy and I don't know how to dig more details about the address, such as the IP or location. The Yahoo notification system does not display them (by the way, thank you, Mark, for making these details available to owners).
But maybe I am fussing over nothing.

It has, https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/66533746, but the OP never used the #suggestion hashtag, so you may want to post a new thread with the hashtag, and refer to the previous one with the missing one, and Mark may merge the two into one or let this new one in as well, I don't know.

Leave the group open, set everyone to moderate all posts, and if someone tries to post, tell them you are not allowing more posting at the old group and they need to join the new group over at location X. Add a note to the group home page, and set the group web address to the web address of the new location. I've seen a few groups simply list the Groups.io email address. That's not as easy to use as clicking a web link that takes you directly to Groups.io where you can click Join (assuming you are already logged into Groups.io).

Cristie,

Anyone know how to access Yahoo Groups to delet my old groups or get

FYI, I sent the Archive Team folks an e-mail about what they were or weren't offering. I haven't heard back. I'll post if I do - otherwise, assume not.

Has anyone actually gone over to ArchiveTeam.org and asked them in their chat about any concerns? That'd be a lot better than just assuming 'something is up'. Afterall, if you don't save your data, and ArchiveTeam does not save the data, it will be lost forever when Yahoo actually cuts things off.

Thanks for the advice, Christos and Samuel.  We went with the method more or less suggested by Christos, creating the private subgroup just for the mods.  It would be made even easier with functionality to move topics and messages between groups or groups and subgroups.  Has that already been suggested on beta?  Maybe I should suggest it there?  Thanks again.

All they have to do is look at the Home page of that group.

That's how it works with most or all of the ones I'm in. They need to be able to see how many members are there (some places require you to have 8+ memberd.)

The big question would be, are they still processing them?  I doubt it since the cutoff has passed.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that tomorrow morning (PST) all trace of any download procedure has disappeared.

I don't think the fact that the cutoff point has passed matters much. When the web interface was cut down mid-December, the actual cut happened on Monday, even though the deadline was on a Saturday. I'm guessing they will actually process all the requests added to the queue. The queue will shrink starting from the point when they remove the web page link for triggering the download procedure.

I don't see any other way for them to cleanly close things out without affecting other requests that are also in the queue. We won't really know until people starting getting back their GMD requests made before the deadline. I know some group owners and members filed GMD requests after the deadline; it remains TBD whether they get data. The request queue may be days long right now. I think there is a decent chance they'll process requests added to the queue over the weekend, and simply stop the inflow by changing the web page. Then they'll delete data when they've processed all current GMD requests in the queue.

Re: List Owner not listed as List Owner

List-owner,

I AM logged as the owner,

Are you?

If you don't see the Owner badge next to the home page button, then you aren't:

Screen shot of navigation pate
If there is no badge next to the word Home then the email address you used to log in is (at best) a member of the group. You need to log in using an address that owns the group.

This does not help. I AM logged as the owner, but I am only a member according to  my groups page and can't access the admin options.

Re: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

Yes I've reported the "no Reverse DNS" error to mark two months ago. Mark said it was a "delay for the look up" which he altered and it made an immediate difference (better) but still is occurs. This tells you it indeed had something to do with the GIO setting. And if you do a search on "No reverse DNS" here you'll see more than a few reported this same error. In fact you replied the same thing to the ones I saw as you did here. You blamed it on Outlook.

Re: Yahoo Groups Download Manager status

Haudy Kazemi

YG to GIO was not fully automatic. It required a paid premium account, certain access on YG side, confirmations, and had to be inititated some time before the mid Dec point where Yahoo cut down the website.

More recently I read that GIO came up with a way to import GMD MBOX data that group members saved independently from GIO.
