Re: transfer@groups.io doesn't go through

I have paid the 220 one shot yearly payment and will deal with that later.

This issue hasn't been dealt with:

  1. Send an invite from your Yahoo Group to transfer@groups.io

I tried that twice but it received an error message both times.

I then tried to "invite" by changing the order of "groups.io" to ".iogroups" which did go through, but I don't know if it is legitimate or not. From transfer@groups.io to transfer@.iogroups.

I am asking for help in being able to "invite" someone who can work out this transfer as following the steps given isn't working out for me. At least not yet. Maybe it does now as it does here.

Re: Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Peter Walker

I have just gone through the transfer process and received the email about 24 hours ago that the transfer was complete.

However, 831 members are listed in the email as not being added due to a "Database" error. I spent the whole day preparing and applying for a Direct Add of those missing members - most annoying. But at least that was something I could fix myself. I then compared the message history between my Yahoogroup and groups.io and there were 394 missing messages, especially for the year 2007 but also other years to a lesser extent. Using PG Offline, i counted the messages actually there in the missing months and can confirm the numbers given in the YahooGroups Message History were accurate, yet in groups.io there were months where there were up to 81 messages missing in groups.io that I could confirm existed in the original YahooGroup and in my archive in PG Offline.

Does it makes sense to start the transfer process again, just for messages. Would this help filling in the gaps?

Just one more point - since you have 1 month of premium, you can direct add all of your members from your Yahoo Group. You would need to get a list of them.

See this wiki page for the information on that.

You must pay for the full year in order to use the Easy Transfer. Try to pay just $200. If necessary, pay the full $220 and then get a refund for the $20 you already paid. You don't have time to wait, if you want to use the transfer.

Important: To use the Transfer Agent, you must be either an owner of the Yahoo group, or a moderator with both the “Invite and add members” and “Add, remove, and change moderator privileges” privileges.

You need to follow the instructions, step by step.

If you DON'T need your message archive, you don't have to pay Groups.io to transfer your group. Basic groups are free.
There are also workarounds you could try.

It's because Mark said he will delete feature requests until the YG fiasco is over.  I'd guess a week or two, but he'll make an announcement when he's ready to have them posted.

It appears you haven't actually set up a transfer.  Use the steps at https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/message/24431 to make sure you're doing the proper things in the proper order.  There will be no indication on the transfer page that you've upgraded.

If you're using the same email address for the group you created here, the date you originally joined the YG won't be copied.  It seems to be a status thing with some people, so we tried to cover all the bases in the Wiki.  You can join the GIO group with an email address you didn't use on YG, make it owner, then remove the one you used on YG before giving the go ahead.

If so, you'd need an Enterprise group to do it, bu it would be the entire domain.  This is something you'd need to ask support about.

Dan, have you paid for the entire year? You can't pay it monthly for a transfer. I paid $220 for the transfer.  It  was a week ago, think I did  it right.

Secondly, I am assuming that you are an owner or moderator with the status to promote the transfer email address to moderator. Quite a few people thought they were but aren't.  Yes, I was made a moderator so I could do this.

Third, you are signed in with the right email address, I hope!  Only  one I've got...

Fourth, you said you verified that the payment had taken place. Did you pay it or someone else? I paid.
Frankly, I am not 100% sure that this matters, except instructions say that you have to be a group Owner, or a Moderator with the "Billing" privilege.

What is the error message? When you check your transfer status, what does it say? (You could send a screenshot. Or give us the exact wording.

Go to the Yahoo transfer page at https://groups.io/yahootransfer
Select the transfer you want to check status on from "Existing Transfers" at lower right (i.e.: click on the name) This is not a displayed option.
The box at the top of the resulting page will tell you the status of that transfer. Don't get there!
Repeat for any other transfers you may have in progress. Only one.

I sent a message to support.  Though this is only for premium subscribers... they have the money, but I feel remarkably  "unpremium"  today.

Thanks again,

Dan

Perhaps this isn't a new topic, but I couldn't find the answer to my question.

Our non-profit already has its own domain at GoDaddy, kbwbs.org.  I HATE GoDaddy email manager!  I'd really like to transfer the GoDaddy email account and its records to Groups.io.  But we would like to keep our email address:  info@....  Is that possible?
Thanks,

Update: If you get an error message when trying to invite transfer@groups.io to your YahooGroup, keep inviting and clicking the Update button on the Easy Yahoo Groups Transfer page.

The error message I got was "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content."

This may or may not be the error message you get when you try to invite transfer@groups.io. But, keep clicking the Update button on the Easy Yahoo Groups Transfer page until you see this message at the top: We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite.

After that, follow the next steps on this page: https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Correct.

They will send you an email once they have received an invite.
I wish this were true, but it's probably too late to suggest such a tweak to the Easy Group Transfer process.

To be clear, groups.io will send you an email once they have accepted your invite. The only way to know if the Yahoo Groups invitation has gone out and been received by groups.io is to check your status page as noted above. At that point it will say "We have received your invite and will accept it soon..."

Will this happen to me?
Maybe. This issue affects users of specific email services that choose to interpret spam markings as a request to unsubscribe. Some do so even when it was their spam filter that redirected the message to your Spam folder. Check the list of Service Providers below, if your email service provider is not on that list then most likely you will not be affected.

For more, see https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam

What is the position of Groups.io management on why this is being done?
There are statements about why this is being handled this way in [beta #10753] and [beta #11900].

I dont understand??

Hello,

You have been automatically removed from GroupManagersForum@groups.io because your Email Service Provider reported to us that one or more messages sent to you from GroupManagersForum@groups.io has been marked as spam.

We suggest that you check your spam box as soon as possible to see if your Email Service Provider has diverted other legitimate messages into it.

You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 7 days by clicking the following link:

Resume Subscription

Groups.io groups offer several options for controlling how much and what types of emails to receive. See this Help Center article for more information.

If this happens repeatedly please check with your Email Service Provider to learn about how they decide to send feedback reports to list services (such as Groups.io groups).

Cheers,
The Groups.io Team
