Shal,

Thanks for this, I always thought it went by the subject field. This may in fact explain my problem I originally posted about.

Joan,

Yes, because they are different topics (even though they might have the identical subject text). The muting works by topic number (at the end of the URL shown in your browser), not by text matching the subject. For example, this topic is:
https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/24945231

If those multiple topics have a hashtag in common you could mute the hashtag instead. An example in this group would be #changelog, there's a new topic approximately each week that has that hashtag. However, doing that might mute more topics than you want, depending on the scope of the hashtag.

There is no logging of messages sent to members (or non-members) via the site.  This has been requested and may be part of the long awaited Notifications Overhaul mentioned on GMF and beta@ in the past.  It's been suggested that received and sent owner messages all be saved and logged, as well as having a 'quote' option when replying.

The notoices were sent to the Yahoo mail accounts of YahooGroups owners/  I had to take the Oath pledge three times before their silliness stopped.

Thanks, It worked to copy and paste it into numbers on my mac. I bet I could paste it into excel. I didn’t think of trying that!

The menu still comes up, but I think he's talking about the dialog box
that comes up to confirm a selected action.

I notice now that when I select an action nothing at all happens, which
isn't a good user experience, in my opinion. It feels to me like the
software is broken rather than like I made a mistake.

Perhaps I am still not understanding which dialog box is being referred to. I am still getting the same results for my test. My test was: No members selected, click on "Actions" button, list of options comes up - I select "Send message", the message box comes up with "To: 0 members".

I think you earlier said that the "Actions" button should be disabled (grayed out) if no members are selected. I would agree with that as the preferred solution.

exporting results of a poll?

Is there a way to export the results of a poll to an excel file or even to a database within groups?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: How to set calendar on speceific weekend in year #calendar

Pedja,

I need to set event in calendar that occurs once a year, every second
weekend in march.
I think so.

The obvious way, using the Yearly selection in Repeats, does not present an equivalent to "Repeat by day of the week" (presented when you choose Monthly). So Yearly always repeats on the same date of the same month.

But create the event on a second weekend (say, Saturday) in March. Then
select Monthly in Repeats, and then Repeats Every 12 months. Then you can select "Repeat by day of the week" and the Repeat Summary is "Every 12 months on the Second Saturday". Which sounds like what you want.

Re: Removing a Member

Leeni

Easy that is something I know how to do LOL

Go to your Admin page and then membership list

Put a check mark in the box next to the member you want to remove.
Scroll all the way down to Actions
Click on that box and then click on remove

exporting or viewing multiple calendar events at once?

Paige Loter

Hi,

My group plans lots of rehearsals and performance events and our members can sign-up or RSVP for each rehearsal individually. The feature to view and email attendees by RSVP type is nice. However is there a way to view the responses to multiple events at once? Could I potentially see all on one page who is coming to events on Sept 1, Sept 4 and Sept 9 so that I can cross check and see which days I have low attendance or too many, etc. Having to click on each date and view responses is cumbersome when I have 5 or 6 events to look at in relation to each other.
We currently use Doodle for this so members can click which days they can attend and then I can export the file to excel. The problem with this is that if I need to change an event's info, it resets the doodle for that day and then everyone has to go back in and re-enter their response.

Could creating a poll do what I need it to do?

Paige

Possible "Missing Activity"

Chris Jones

I had the need to send a message to a member before either releasing or rejecting a message from him in moderation.

I know the message I sent him was sent because I checked the "bcc Moderators" box and received a copy of it. However, that "activity" does not appear in the log and I can find no category in the list of activities that covers it.

Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) that this action is one that for whatever reason is not logged?

Chris

I wish I had found groups.io years ago and I would have made the transfer when I could.

Did anyone else a yahoogroup too?

This one seems a misfire to me. Shouldn't the Actions menu itself be disabled if none are selected? And having nothing at all happen, rather than a dialog that says it is doing something to zero selected members, seems like a mysterious dysfunction. Especially after a search that returns a single member, or a small number of them.

Or am I missing something here?

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:
https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/18085

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: The pending message notification email now uses the pending
message's subscriber email address instead of the Sender line when
describing who the message is from.
It took me a while to figure out how that matters. But I think the answer is that it matters for someone posting via an Alias address - the Sender line would be the Alias address, which is perforce not a member of the group. That would be confusing to group moderators, who should only be aware of the subscribed address.

CHANGE: On the Members page, only bring up the Action dialog if at
least one member is selected.
This one seems a misfire to me. Shouldn't the Actions menu itself be disabled if none are selected? Or am I missing something here?

NEW: The member subgroups page now has a Joined column for the
subgroups a member is a part of.
Oh! I never really noticed that a member's page (from the Members list) has a Subgroups tab. That provides a way to bulk change their subscription settings in subgroups.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

BUGFIX: Fix encoding issues with CSV formatted member list download.
NEW: Include in the activity log the message sent to someone when
directly adding them, similar to how invites are done.
INTERNAL: Fixed database connection closing issue.
INTERNAL: Moved all database connections to use a connection pooler.
CHANGE: Help file tweaks.
BUGFIX: Fixed two issues with chat that could cause chat messages to
not be delivered to all members of the chat room.
SYSADMIN: Tuned the database.
NEW: Added 'Int' and 'NS' badges to the pending messages page for
messages from Integrations and Non Subscribers.
BUGFIX: Fixed issue with approving pending messages from
non-subscribers.
BUGFIX: Fixed an issue with long running chat sessions.
INTERNAL: Now caching some web pages.
Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Can I move my Big Tent group to groups.io? #transfer

vijaybhuchar,

Yes it would be good if someone at groups.io could contact some at Big
Tent and then a mutually beneficial takeover.
I sent Mark an email as soon as I heard about the BigTent closure. But I doubt he would be interested in a takeover, at least not in the sense of continuing to run that service on its own code.

I thought though that he might be interested in setting up a transfer automation, as he's done for Yahoo and Google groups, but I've no idea what would be involved in doing that - or whether cooperation from BigTent would be needed or helpful in making that work.

BigTent users who want to migrate here might wish to create a topic on beta asking for a transfer feature. I don't see such a topic yet.
https://beta.groups.io/g/main

They might also suggest to BigTent that Groups.io be included in the list of alternatives on their FAQ about the shutdown.
https://bigtent.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005757114-As-of-12-31-18-BigTent-Will-Be-Shutting-Down

Two major concerns, from Groups.io's point of view, I imagine would be:

1) The short time remaining before the end-of-year shutdown. We've seen how long it has taken to get the Y!groups transfer process smoothed out, and to get any substantial number of groups moved over. Part of that is the dysfunction at Yahoo Groups, and part of it is that there's no clear "drop dead" date to motivate Y!Group owners, but I think the time would be a major concern.

2) The economics of doing it. How many Big Tent groups would come over as Premium or Enterprise groups? Would the effort in building a transfer mechanism pay off, even in the long term? How does it compare to other things Mark could be doing (the opportunity cost)? Remember that Groups.io is neither a charity nor ad-supported. So upgraded groups are the bread-and-butter around here.

I think advocates of a BigTent transfer need to address those issues as best they can. For (1) I think it would be almost essential for a BigTent group owner, or maybe a group of them, very knowledgeable in the details of how BigTent works, to be leading the charge, and working closely with Mark to on implementation and testing. In the case of Yahoo and Google groups Mark was able to create his own test groups to migrate, but that's no longer possible with BigTent.

Re: Unable to view attached #images online #images

Tom,

So maybe it has to do with the code that buries the quoted content
behind the “...” in the UI that is messing up, since the image tag is
down below that?
Wait. The the image would be displayed as part of the quoted matter (revealed by the "..." button) rather than part of the reply proper? I'm not saying that should prevent its display, but it does introduce that extra complication.

Or maybe it is deliberate.
https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/51767

I didn't think that got implemented, but image copies building up due to multiple replies has been a longstanding issue.

I can provide raw source for the messages upon request, but I assume
you don’t want me to post that here.
Correct, send them to me off-list. Personal address, or +owner.

Or maybe better, since you've narrowed this down and have a repeatable example, write up your findings in a message to support@groups.io and cite the group and message numbers so Mark can find them. If he wants the sources "as sent" he'll ask for them. Because this sounds like a bug in the identification of what's quote and what's not.
