I think that might be - at least - part of the problem.
When you clicked on the paperclip, it *attached* the screenshot which *would* show at the bottom of the email.
If you wanted to embed (insert) the image to the email, you'd want to click on the icon that looks like a picture:
email_insert image.jpg

Went to Mail on my Mac and once again all the attachments were stacked together at the bottom of the email.

I returned to my group and read the message I had just sent there:  same thing.  

It appears to me that it is not possible to create an email from a groups.io site which will place the screenshots in the body of the email.  

Looks like composing the email on one's computer, turning it into a .pdf, then sending that .pdf to the group is the only solution,
