Allowing individual groups' owners to endanger the ability of groups.io to remain a non blacklisted email provider to those people is far more important that the minor effort required by owners to properly educate their subscribers about this issue.

Bob is right. This syndrome has a name, the Tragedy of the Commons, where individual needs combined in isolation produce negative results for the group as a whole.
