Old Scanners on Windows 10
Dale Smith
I also have an older Epson Perfection 1200 scanner from my Windows XP days, (complete with transparency scanning unit) which wouldn't work on Windows 7 or 10, but I found a work around in installing a driver for a newer Epson scanner which is compatible with my computer and my scanner. It tricks the computer into thinking it is working with a newer scanner. Same interface. For details, send me a private message. Dale

I have found that VueScan also has really good hardware support for older scanners. It is currently $40 for 1 year of updates, but the real deal is the $90 for unlimited updates. This product has been around for many years and keeps getting updated to support the latest Windows versions and newer scanners. I have also found that Linux tends to have better support than Windows, at least for certain old scanners.

Dale, thank you for starting a new topic on this … and everyone's excellent advice.
Thank you, Joe and Haudy for the ScanVue software recommendation. I checked it out and that's just the ticket! Just wish that I would have known about it sooner. Looks like it will do a good job of scanning my slides, too. I plan to switch to an iMac after I retire and believe the HP Scanjet 8200 will work with that, as well. (Trying to contact HP a few years ago about this issue was a long wait and, basically, zero help.) I have an old PC with Windoze (that was funny) XP, but a pain to setup and then transfer the scans. Thanks again to all, guys! -- Tom <PR> PINE RIDGE RR

I got the Hamrick drivers to work on Windows 7 with my scanner, but when I updated to 10 I couldn't get it to work. I backed out to 7, it's and old PC just used for scanning now.
It still works like a champ, was used for all the magazine scans on gdlines dot org and gdlines dot info. It's a Memorex scanner I bought for $10 from the Staples clearance table back in the early 2000's. Not sure who actually made it (Memorex is just a marketing name now). The color registration is excellent. Jeff
