Wow! And I thought snail mail was slow..... according to the "send"
date on this e-mail, it was sent in January of 1980! :-)

Now to answer this question. Bob, I think that these have been listed
on the MDC website for quite some time ( a couple of years at least,
that I know of). I think that this is where you got the info below.

Happy tracks!

I acquired the video in '95 and it is worth every penny spent. It adds
another dimension to the book about the G&D that Kalmbach published. Realize that
John Allen has been my principle inspiration since way back when he was
photo-doing the Varney ads for MR. Anything I can collect relative to him is
valuable to me.

Do a Google or Yahoo search on sunday River Productions and get their web site. They still have this video in their catalog. It is indeed worth EVERY penny.

Re: Video

Michael Kennedy <cigarguy@...>

Gary,

Yes, it is indeed a great video to watch. The Sunday River
Productions version can still be found out and about. I bought one this
summer while visiting the Strassburg RR in Pennsylvania. There is a
small hobby (?) shop on the second level of one of out-buildings there,
and it was quite well stocked with a variety of RR videos. I was
suprised that they had two (2) copies of the G&D video on hand, since it
is my understanding that it is no longer being produced (but I may be
wrong...). I bought one for about $45. The video also occasionally
shows up at swap meets around my area (Mid-Michigan).
My advice... if you like the G&D, buy the video. To me, it was
worth it.

I agree with Michael, the video is worth it if you are a G&D fan. There is a gentleman here in CA who sells videos at train shows, and as of this spring, he still had numerous copies "Mint In Box"....

Re: Everyone's favorite railroad in O scale

Russell - Idaho USA <cottonwoodhobbies@...>

I am a 2-rail O scaler and also drew up a plan to build the original GD line
in O scale (36" min radius worked out to about 8x16' in six sections to be
made from hollow core doors). Never got as far as building such a thing (or
the 24x30' sectional I drew of some of the BIG layout), I am currently
working on a minimum sized loop on a hexagon layout to get something running
with materials at hand.

I would love to see some photos of your work on O scale as well as hearing
if you find sources for O scale GD decals, etc. There are several custom
producers (as well as a few astute modelers with Alps printers) that can
print out decals (or dry transfers?) from any computer graphic. My line will
be the Snails Pace RR, so will need some custom graphics someday.

Currently I model three rail O scale, and have set out to build a
modified version of the original G & D. As of today, the bench is
up, the track is being layed out, and the walls are screaming to be
painted sky blue. Any other three rail G&D fans out there?

Lastly... does any make G&D O scale dry transfers? If so, who?

Hi Greg,

These ARE available in O, HO, and N.

See message # 355 for details.

They are through Greg Komar Dry Transfers, who made a
batch based on
multiple requests from this group. Please patronize
him, as he went
out on a limb and made these before he had enough
orders to justify
the "run".

You can see pictures of a Wathers "Piker" I lettered
with these
in "Jeff's Pix" folder in the photos section; the
other cars are
factory lettered MDC (except for the changed numbers).
They are
excellent quality, go on easy and look great.

Regards,

Jeff Witt

P.S. If anyone else has used these yet, please post
some pix as well!!

The 4 car set of 50' passenger cars comes up every now
and then on ebay. No One that I know of makes O scale
dry transfers for G&D, but someone does make them in
HO scale (not dry transfer, wet transfers)
