Is there any interest in creating a product for GPSL 2004? Cafepress.com will let us
upload some artwork and create things like mugs and t-shirts. The profits could go
to paying for GPSL related costs, like helium.

Let me know what you think.

I haven't been keeping up with my email. Sounds like we should be able to fly
then. I'll try to catch up on the details and let you know.

Thanks,

If all you want is I-gate functionality, try APRSD.  http://sourceforge.net/projects/aprsd/

XASTIR is the full APRS client, and appears to have I-gate functionality as well.  http://www.xastir.org/

I briefly used APRSD way back when - was playing around with Linux on a laptop.  I'm not familiar with XASTIR at all.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for setting up a APRS node at my house for GPSL?  I've got a Linux server sitting there doing nothing that I would prefer to use if the software is readily available.

Thanks to everyone for stating their flight and travel intentions.  I have begun to compile this information on the website at www.rckara.org/project_traveler/gpsl/.

For those of you planning on flying a capsule, I would appreceiate if you would email me with the details (see the example for Project: Traveler).

We also have some details to firm up such as telemetry frequency, chase frequencies, etc.

Assuming that it is there and coax is run, we can certainly use it.

They've moved us around a time or two, and currently we don't have a
permanent home, and therefore, no coax inside the building. Hopefully that
will be changing before GPSL.

We'll need to get back in touch with the CSphere, but they've given us
permission to setup an 8' table near an emergency exit with antennas
outside. Jon (a local) has a tower-on-a-trailer that we can setup to get
some elevation.

Hi Mark,

Hutchinson looks like about 400 mi from Denver and an hour S of Salina.
Last time I looked, EOSS had a contingent interested in GPSL '04, and
we have kept that weekend open for EOSS-82. I'll start soliciting
for committments and keep you posted,

If other teams are interested, we can fly the EOSS APRS / TNC module
this time for some EB....BE stuff on 144.34. And we'll avoid any
beacons on the 147.555 Skywarn simplex freq this time! 145.60 instead.

GPSL 2004 will be in Hutchinson KS on Friday and Saturday, July 3

The launch will be on Saturday the 3rd at 8am, with a backup date
of Sunday the 4th if the weather doesn't cooperate. I believe
the plan is to have a handful of launch sites picked out so that
we won't be constrained by upper-level wind forecasts for our
landing projections. But poor weather at the surface could still
delay us.

My tentative plans are to leave mid-morning on the 2nd and arrive
there late afternoon (there will be a dinner for anyone arriving
on the 2nd). Friday will have several sessions given by the
different balloon programs (lots of neat video). Friday evening
will include a tour of the Kansas Cosmosphere, which is a nice
space museum.

After the flights, we'll meet up for lunch before heading out of
town.

Swiss Adverturer Plans Around-the-World Solar Flight

Ralph Wallio, W0RPK <wallio@...>

Not a balloon but very interesting nonetheless:

Swiss Adverturer Plans Around-the-World Solar Flight
Solar Impulse to be world's first fuel-free plane

Source: Reuters
[Nov 29, 2003]

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Reuters) - Swiss adventurer Bertrand Piccard, the
first man to pilot a balloon around the world non-stop, has announced plans
to circle the planet in a specially built solar-powered aircraft.

Piccard, who circumnavigated the earth in 1999 with Brian Jones of Britain,
will lead a team of scientists and aviators in his attempt to fly around the
world in a fuel-free plane -- to be called Solar Impulse.

"A century after the Wright brothers' first flight, we look forward to
adding new pages to solar aviation," Piccard, 54, said. "It is a colossal
challenge."

Lausanne's Federal Institute of Technology will help Piccard's team build an
aircraft that can store enough power to stay in the air throughout the
night.

See http://www.solar-impulse.com/en/index.php for the complete story.

Forward to group lists as desired.

Hi Bill

Count the Kansas City  Amateur Television Group in with at least tracking. Keep the group advised as what, where, and when as this sounds very interesting. Thanks

P.S. I am looking for plans to build a 432 square loop antenna for the mobile and can't find the site it was at a while back. Any help? Thanks de kd0fw Mike.

have a strobe lamp below the balloon lighting up the envelope at night and also
it should be pretty visible during the day.....to simulate the Christmas star...
