Re: Kansas repeaters
Don Pfister <ka0jlf@...>
A quick repeater report: the only one that I could hit from the Herington Airport
was the Junction City 146.880 that was with less than 50W mobile, but I did have my pre-amp on - but I'm not sure I needed it. I was able to hit it without the pre-amp but I didn't have anyone to talk too. It seemed a bit spotty up and down the hills. I was not able to bring up the 'Herington' repeater at all. I guess it doesn't exist anymore. I tried with and without the tone. EIC do you know if the Herington repeater is no more? The Manhattan repeater had pretty good coverage from I-70 but dropped out before Herington. I talked to Mike KD0FW for a long time on it, as I drove between Topeka and Manhattan. He was at his home in Independence, MO. I think he has a better than average antenna system. ;-) That is about it. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Don

Forecast update, 4 Jul
Mark Conner <n9xtn@...>
Happy Independence Day to everyone!
The Eta forecast is now showing north winds above 30,000 ft - the AVN shows light and variable. This makes only minor differences in the overall forecast track. For 75kft, the landing is 281 degrees at 10 miles. The 95,000 ft landing is about 8 miles farther west. If you're thinking about a "catch" as it comes down (I sure am), this is the day. The road grid is pretty good, and the low-level winds should be almost due south. The landing should be about 2 miles due north of the payload's position at 10,000 ft on descent. - Mark

Dinner
pverhage1960 <paul.verhage@...>
There's a 24 hour study area at teh campus, so I have access to group
email. I have my cell phone and HT in the car, and I'll be monitoring them shortly. Just finished watching MIB-2, not bad. There comment about postal workers was cute. By the way, the last Star Trek:TNG movie is coming out in time for Christmas. The hanger at Herington looks fine for filling balloons. I'll pick up a plastic tarp to toss on the group. I don't want those oil spots on my balloon sheets. Funny, I never thought I'd see so many oil spots around aircraft. I have four people arriving tonight, Bob, Don, Mark, and Mike. I'll monitor the repeater for your arrivals. See you all later, Paul

Re: Dinner
Zack Clobes <zclobes@...>
I will be leaving Hutch sometime between 12:00pm
and 5:30pm. If I get out early, are there any dinner plans that I should
be aware of for Friday night?
Also, the final decision for vehicle comm is on
446.52 simplex? I should have 7.2535Mhz on my vehicle also (if my new
magnet holds up....).
What time are we gathering/launching from
Herington?
Thanks,
Zack

Answers to Questions
pverhage1960 <paul.verhage@...>
I'll try to get to the airport by 5:00 AM on Saturday. WE need to get
the balloons filled as early as possbile to reduce the chances of trying to launch in high winds. Can we start filling before 6:00AM? Friday's dinner is at Sirlion Stockade. Some of us are trying to go to dinner this evening (Thursday). Check in on the repeater for directions. Paul

The 00Z run is pretty consistent with this morning's Eta run. The
balloon will head north about 5 miles, back to the south about 3 mi, then head west about 5-12 miles (depending on burst).
