Re: Montana Balloon Aloft
HBAL617 is not the Chinese balloon. It's a Thunderhead balloon -superpressure- made by Aerostar. It was launched on Feb. 1st from Santa Fe County, New Mexico.

Re: Montana Balloon Aloft
I think with a little advanced notice, the ARHAB community it could launch a latex balloon on an intercept course. Perhaps close enough to get photos.

Re: Montana Balloon Aloft
Looks like it's made like this, just a lot bigger.
And filled with lifting gas not as an anchor balloon use.

I would love to track it but I do not want to attempt to recover it if it does land in the US. I am sure our government is weighing the options to bring it down over the US for further examination.

Re: Montana Balloon Aloft
One sight claims it to be habl617 on flight radar. If that's correct, it's east of Birmingham, AL.
One thing is certain. I think I need to add a "Made in Canada" sticker on my payloads. ;-)

I just wish we could at least track it. If it goes right over my house and it looks like it might, I’d like to find it once on the ground.

Re: Montana Balloon Aloft
I was wondering if the Chinese learned long duration floaters from the ARHAB community.
Is the altitude known along with angular size of balloon? I'm thinking we could calculate lift of the balloon

Re: GPSL 2023 conference date poll question
Definitely plan to attend this year with a fellow HAB enthusiast from Atlanta. Any of those dates would work and put us down for one tank.

There are three possible dates for GPSL 2023. July 7/8, July 14/15 or July 21/22. Let me know which is best for you all and a tentative idea on how many may be attending.

Does the sonde have a MCU that writes to the Si4063? Changing the frequency is just a matter of changing the data in a register of the SI4063 and of course verifying nothing in the RF chain will cause
